ddavid 149
Team-Mutley, current World Air Rally Grand Prix Champions, are completing their preparations for MEBAR 2011. Their new aircraft, a Shorts SD3-30, has been carefully fitted out and given a brand new livery. Here she is over the Hampshire countryside: The team has 3 members who represented the Hangar at the Great Australian Air Rally, earlier this year. They have been joined by the GAAR organiser, Andrew Godden, who has also played a vital role in organising MEBAR. The other 3 team members are John Allard, Kieran Marshall and Dai Williams. Each will fly the Test Flight, and their flight time averaged. Then, each Leg of MEBAR will be flown by a member of the team and their flight times assessed against the team's target times - a real test of their flying skills! Watch out for their progress - Good Luck, guys! Cheers - Dai.
hurricanemk1c 195
Do you know when I said change the reg. to G-UKAR, I didn't expect massive letters! Aw well, makes it unique! BTW, G-UKAR is free on the UK register........

Andrew Godden 945
After transportation and internment in the colonies for the term of my natural life, I was soon released at the Governor's pleasure for good behaviour and sent to work for a wealthy sheep grazier who had three very lovely daughters :wootmesalia: ..........ooops wrong story. Back in the cockpit for Team Mutley, and Flight Leg 3. The obligatory 'Wolf Rock' photo call and preparing for the T&G at EGHC. "Stone the crows", if I ever see this stretch of coast again...... The turn inbound to EGHU and we're on schedule. Turning on to "Finals". "Short finals" and over the fence. The landing roll out and taxi to parking. Now, to unload the 1500 lbs of prawns, kangaroo steaks and "croc" burgers (tastes just like chicken) for the BBQ.
allardjd 1,853
That's a lot of radar for a grass glider strip. They shouldn't need a grill to cook the meat with those nearby. Mine was just a bare strip without even a windsock and very difficult to find. I finally spotted it over my shoulder and darned near didn't see it at all. John
Andrew Godden 945
I can't remember if I got this freeware scenery from Flightsim or the scenery links on the MEBAR web site. There is also an F/A-18 parked out of camera shot. Now, I thought that was overdoing it. Either way, I will have to keep an eye on the meat to make sure it's not overcooked by the radiation - it can totally spoil the 'roo steaks. Cheers Andrew
ddavid 149
The scenery for EGHU is by Alf Denham (May 2008) and he says: Eaglescott-EGHU 6nm ESE of Torrington, 10nm SSE of Barnstaple:One grass runway 05/23 and an emergency grass landing strip approx. 15/33 Note: Burrington Radar Station approx. 1/4 mile north of airfield. I apologise if the tumuli on the airfield are unrealistic. They are marked on two different airfield diagrams that I consulted but are not obvious in Google Earth. There are two more tumuli to the WNW. The scenery is fine with the default mesh but needs some work if you're using a more realistic (photo scenery) mesh. Search for "alfs_uk_airfields_vol.7_239265" on AVSIM, I think... And, it's free - so Thanks, Alf! Cheers - Dai.
allardjd 1,853
I looked at Eaglescott on Google Earth and see that the radars are there and there's a lot more to the airfield than the single bare strip in stock FS9. There is even what appears to be the hulk of a military jet, tail-less, but obviously something formerly go-fast. All of that sure would have made that place easier to find. allardjd 1,853
I never noticed before how much that vertical stab looks like the Harrier's. John
Andrew Godden 945
In retrospect, it's amazing when you notice these similarities from ostensibly what was the same company and about 10-15 years difference in design and first flight of the two aircraft. There is a fantastic video on youTube of a Swiss Hunter flying around the Swiss Alps and with some great background music. The music is "Ameno" by eRa.
Andrew Godden 945
OK, I didn't expect to embed the video in the post, but now you don't have to go to youTube for it.
allardjd 1,853
Great video. I'd have traded the music for a HUD, however. In some of the sequences it was very difficult to get a handle on his pitch angle - going up the side of the Matterhorn was the exception; no problem with that one. alex25 0
no radar on my scenery or google but it is pretty elderly it would seem.
