Foxbat in the flesh

Recommended Posts

Today I was able to identify an aircraft for the second time, due entirely to my FSX experiences.

Last time was the C208B Caravan at the RAF Waddington airshow (it wasn't part of the display, though and therefore not announced over tannoy), even if it took until next time I started FSX before I realised.

Today it was much easier - well the aircraft's distinctive features stand out a mile, tbh.

I was out on the mutt's lunchtime walk near Boston Aerodrome again, when I heard an aircraft that was obviously rather low, and when I looked up to see it passing overhead, I instantly knew what it was - Foxbat!

No, not the rather fast one that had NATO heads in a spin in the 70's until one was defected to Japan, showing it wasn't what the West had feared it to be, but the DIY version from Aeroprakt (and wouldn't I just love to have one) that I have flown on many an occasion in FSX - usually for farmstripping, where it excels.

It was a standard overhead join - he had guts, that's for sure, as there was a strong crosswind and you could see him fighting it onto finals. But he got it down in one go - well done!

I only had my 'point & shoot' Fuji camera on me at the time, so it was lucky I was close enough to be able to actually see the 'plane on the pics:

I was rather chuffed about that - so if you own or fly Aeroprakt A-22 Foxbat number G-CDTZ, you made my day today! :001_th_smiles89:

Here's the one I fly in FSX:

I like yellow - I guess this one (thumbnail only) would be a better match:

So, there ya go.

Little things....

ps - sorry, I forgot to mention that the FSX model is by Rick Piper and is available at the Horizon website ;)
