Human Factored Landing Gear Switch

Recommended Posts

Human factoring is what engineers call it when they incorporate design features to protect us from ourselves.

A couple of weeks ago I was departing on a Cargo Pilot flight in my heavily laden C-123. Those of you that have the CH flight yoke will know that the landing gear switch and the flap switch are identical and adjacent. Lift-off - positive rate - gear up...Damn! I didn't settle back in when the flaps came in, but almost.

Here's my solution. Credit to my wife, Pam, for the painting. Criticism for the photography to yours truly. Black on black isn't the best composition, but I think you can see it well enough to get the idea. I used a 1" diameter wooden wheel sold in craft stores. I think I got a dozen for $1.47. Anyone need 11 wheels?
