"Flying Wild Alaska" - Freekin Awesome !

Recommended Posts

Do whatever needs to be done to watch this series. Totally amazing.

Follows an american/Native family who run a large airline in northern Alaska.

Last night's episode ("TUNDRA TAXIS") this guy had to land a 180F on a gravel river bank, and it was so short he had to slow down.... by dragging the wheels in the water.... before touching down on the actual bank. Totally stunning !

Considering I always use "auto-rudder", I think I'm missing something !

A must see. Discovery channel - also in HD.

I've seen some of it. But the daughter has got to be the dumbest person on the face of the planet. She irritates the hell out of me.

NatGeo had a similiar show, but only about 4 or 5 episodes. Can't remember the name of it. Was on a few months back. IMO a much better show.

Well, that is a bone of contention.

Half the net thinks she is a little challenged... half (including me) think she is the dogs. She's ace man.

She did a degree in media studies in California and she's doing her PPL - she can't be that stooopid.

And:

...she's been on the Tonite Show,

...she came third on Wipeout,

...she's may be in the new Twilight movie.

She is 20 and never been kissed, but she is gonna be big... like her cherubic face...

Go Ariel !!! My favourite Eskimo in the world. :icon_bowdown:

Can be. Is!

And:

...she's been on the Tonite Show, Don't have to be smart to be on tv

...she came third on Wipeout, See above, also third is still losing.

...she's may be in the new Twilight movie. Don't have to be smart to be in the movies.

Watch a few more episodes and she how dumb she is. Guided a plane to wrong spot and then she tried to make the pilot get back in the plane, start it up and move it.

She'll never graps VOR's, NDB's, radials, STAR's, SID's.

The other show I was trying to remember is called "Alaska Wing Men". It was a three-parter.

While "Flying Wild Alaska" has it's appeal, I consider it more of an entertainment show.

The reason that I prefer "Alaska Wing Men", is that it deals more with aviation and not so much with the forced situations and scripted drama.

But, to each his own.

One thing that really bugs me about that show: They keep describing Pilotage (flying by reference to ground features), and calling it 'dead reckoning'. IT'S NOT FREAKING DEAD RECKONING! AAARRGH!!! (dead reckoning involves calculating your position based on time and direction from a known point, ie. navigation by compass and stopwatch)
