Air Power Brize Norton

Recommended Posts

HI All,

First of all, let me welcome you all to this venture,. More importantly, thanks go to our host for allowing me to promote this publication on his fantastic forum.

What is it you ask, well, think of a magazine along the lines of "Air Forces Monthly" or similar, just on not such a massive scale - although my ego (let alone my editor!) won't like me saying that! It is produced by a team of three RAF Suppliers ate RAF Brize Norton, myself included, in our spare time - it is not work-related (yes, we do it for fun!) and the opinions within are solely those of the writer and are not endorsed by the RAF.

Usually published every 4-6 weeks, we're currently finishing up on the 8th edition, due to be published in the next few days. It is published in various formats - PDF, Flash eBook, and professional printed at RAF Brize Norton - for as many to enjoy as possible.

We also create and publish other Air Power related training aides - e.g 'Top Trump' Cards, tri-fold leaflets, study guides and much more - for the Training & Development Flight (TDF) at Brize.

Previous editions have now been archived, however below are links to our 6th and 7th editions uploaded to the Scribd website for your perusal, with any comment and critique to be aired in below.

6th Edition - read it here

7th Edition - read it here

and a preview of the all-new look-and feel 8th edition coming soon below:

Simi,

Outstanding publication - great job.

The link to issue 7 only gets the first page.

John

Thanks John, much appreciated. We're moving away from the 4-page newsletter format and into the multi-page magazine format with the 8th Edition, so should become better still....

regards 7th edition, it's being shown as a 'slideshow' format, at the bottom right of the screen should be a page selection. if not let me know and i'll adjust the link.

Cheers,

Simi

(Deputy Editor & Executive Graphics Editor - AirPower Brize Norton)

Getting all of it now. Great article on the tanker contract.

John

Thanks John, really appreciate the comments. That happens to be my 1st article for the newsletter. Previously i was on the peripheries governing the graphic elements in accordance to the editors whim - now look at me, fully fledged columnist, executive graphics producer and deputy-editor to boot!

thanks for the support guys, glad you all like the format..

i've just gotten off the phone with the editor and the 8th edition is due to go to press (read: Station Publications Print Shop) after i've completed my final proof-read and other standard pre-press checks...Once that's all done, i'll get it posted and the cycle begins again for the 9th Edition due out for September!

I love that new layout Simi, it looks so professional, I think you deserve a promotion :salute:

Thanks so much Joe - really appreciate the comments... as i told you previously, the graphics and such are all my own works....the front cover is actually a number (6 in total) of pictures from the MOD/Defence image database composited together, hopefully done well enough that you cant tell!

As for promotion, i had my mid-term appraisal and was told that, although relatively new to my sqn (i've been on 99sqn at Brize now for 4 months) my progress has astounded the all the seniors (cpl and above) for the Sqn and i should be expected to be racing for a promotion next year - of course, that's all if i stay on track with my progress!

Everybody wins - maybe Simi & Friends will consider posting their publication in the MH Download Centre.

John

I second that, I'm happy to create a category for it :001_th_smiles89:

John - thanks for linking me to your Ocala page, really appreciate the widened reader-base!

also, if Joe has no issues with me uploading it here in the raw PDF format and can carry the file up/download traffic then i'd be exceptionally happy to upload it here too - we try to keep file sizes down, but the last one (8th Ed) was around 9Mb due to being highly image intensive....

Very nice Simon - well done!

thanks keiron, really appreciate your feedback!

That's correct, the only files accepted are .zip and .jpg.

Simi, file size is not a problem, we git plenty of space :001_th_smiles89:

brilliant, i'll get each one packed up as a .zip (jpeg compresses the images too much!) and have them uploaded....where to Joe?

Hi Simi, I'll prepare a section for you then all you have to do is click the download centre button on the main menu, then upload, browse your upload file etc. it should be pretty self explanatory. The idea of the jpeg is to offer a thumbnail type picture for the entry. Have a look a round the DC and ou will get the idea, I'll report back here in a short while when I have created your section.

Cheers

Joe
