petermcleland 48
Although 208 Squadron visited Rhodesia with Venoms, I thought I would continue my circumnavigation travelling South... The outer tanks are back on now as I continue on South to Rhodesia. Rather sad to leave Nairobi. In the climb to 40,000 feet...The big mountain on the map to my left is Kilimanjaro. This smaller volcano on my left is Meru. That water behind me is the Southern end of Lake Tanganyika. Flying over Salisbury (now Harari). This used to be called New Sarum airport but it is now Harari and it does not seem to have been developed in "Africa 1960". I have moved now from Harari to Thornhill Airbase...This does not even have taxiways. Leaving Thornhill now and... ...setting course for Livingstone. On these shorter legs I don't fill the outers and fly at 10,000 feet. The water to the right of track on the map is Lake Kariba (I remember the dam being built!). Following the Zambesi gorge towards... Victoria Falls. Where I position myself for... ...a loop over... ...the Vic Falls... ...bridge. Coming down the other side of the loop ( I chickened out of looping under the bridge!). But it looks from here as if it is feasible. Rounding out low over... ...the Zambesi water. Well that was fun and I'm now on final approach to Livingstone airport. Rounding out for... ...touchdown. Another view. Parked here for a few days and halfway round my Circumnavigation with 12 legs completed out of the 24. Thanks for looking
hurricanemk1c 195
Great shots Peter - very nice!
mutley 4,498
Bravo! That was a very entertaining sequence. Did the real Echo have a blue nose gear door?
petermcleland 48
Bravo! That was a very entertaining sequence. Did the real Echo have a blue nose gear door? Yes Joe, I have corrected all the 208 Squadron hunters to have the livery as it actually was and all twelve have the pilot's names... (I can not gaurantee that all the pilots names are the correct ones for that aircraft but four are exact and one has his name on the wrong one). The only general changes I had to make to Dave Garwoods paint was the Blue nosewheel door with yellow letter and the fin letter also yellow and slightly smaller, instead of white. mutley 4,498
That must be very satisfying to have your sqdn on flight sim.
jankees 917
Wow, that last shot looks great!
allardjd 1,853
I believe that I can see a cracked girder on that bridge. I wonder if anyone could figure out a way to inspect the bottom side of it, just in the interest of safety, of course. How accurate is the panel, aside from the GPS? That's a spectacular set of shots - all very nicely done. John
hurricanemk1c 195
Looks pretty accurate to me John - recently stuck my head into a single-seat Hunter and sat in a T7
petermcleland 48
Yes the panel is accurate apart from an RMI on the right lower part (there were no navaids in the FGA9). We navigated with strip map on lap and that is what that EFB sitting on my right knee is simulating. There was also no autopilot in the real aircraft but I am very grateful for the clever military looking AP provided by Dave Garwood in the model...It eases the burden on long legs at 40,000 feet
