Running FSX / Aerosoft ManhattanX on a notebook PC.

My current 2-year old desktop PC is an AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core / 6-GByte RAM / AMD HD 4650 with 1GB GDDR2 RAM based system. Whilst this runs FSX/Acceleration reasonably well - mostly frame rates in excess of 20-fps - ManhattanX scenery is barely flyable, with an average 6-fps.

Recently in the market for a small notebook PC, I decided to purchase a £600 notebook - 13.3" display, 4-GB RAM, Intel's latest Sandy Bridge Core I5-2410M CPU, and NVIDIA GT520M/512-MB RAM (Samsung SF311 notebook).

Not expecting too much, decided to load FSX/Acceleration onto the notebook PC, surprisingly, early flight tests indicated that frame rates were about twice the average in the desktop PC. Dusting off my copy of ManhattanX, I added it to the Scenery Library - average 18-fps, peaking at 25 whilst flying through the city. Not earth shattering, but comfortably flyable - not bad for a mid-price notebook.

Hope this info is helpful to anyone considering a PC purchase.

Regards, Flybytes.
