dodgy-alan 1,587
Designed as a replacement for the earlier J35 Draken , the Viggen was one of the best fighters ever built. It could be used for high altitude interception as well as low level ground attack and anti -shipping strikes. it was able to operate from motorway strips and short runways the Viggen could still offer mach 2 performance. Surprisingly it was never exported and the Swedish Air Force was the only user. ...... the climb rate is fantastic, the aircraft is at 17,000 ft and the airfield is visible behind it!! Visiting RAF Leuchars thanks for viewing

mutley 4,498
An Iconic aircraft in my view, it looks to be way ahead of its time. Great work Alan
Andrew Godden 945
Alan, Beautiful shots. Which model is it? It was indeed a very competent aircraft, highly advanced for it's time and had good heritage in the SAAB J35 'Draken'. It was the first aircraft ever, to be fitted with both afterburners and thrust reversers and one of only three in history. The "Big Prize" question is, what were the other two????? Even though it was offered for worldwide sale, there were two main reasons for its failure to achieve any export sales: the Swedish government's strict controls on arms exports, thus creating concerns about continuity of supply and support; and strong diplomatic pressure from larger nations. The USA, in fact, blocked a sale of it to India in 1978 on the basis of not issuing an export licence for the Volvo RM8 turbofan engine which was, in essence, a licence built variant of Pratt and Whitney's JT8D engine. So now everyone can dive for the history books on what the other two aircraft are!!! Cheers Andrew

dodgy-alan 1,587
Thanks guys, the Viggen models are by the great Kazunori Ito and are freeware items, He started off with just a single texture but the new version has about 15! some of which you see here. The soundpack that come with the model are default lear sounds but these were replaced by the sounds from something with a lot more grunt! ( cant remember what now!) the panel is also an additional one from another scource. The RAF Leuchars scenery is also a freeware item with the AI aircraft being Ukmil items that came with it. Hope this helps.
