UKJim 502
So, I jump into my plane for some low and slow - start out on a VFR flight following some electric power lines I am getting tired so I fancy a stop and a cup of tea, but unfortunately the clouds have set in and the nearby airport just keeps denying me access because the airport is IFR In real world aviation what on earth happens in this situation? I am guessing the pilot would have to change plan to IFR and request clearance etc etc? In the sim what do people do in this situation?> Thanks guys, Jim
Tim_A 997
Option 1: Go somewhere else. Option 2: If there is nowhere else nearby that is open: * Ask yourself why is the airport closed. If it is because they don't have instrument facilities, then see option 1. * If you really must land there, & you are competent in IMC, just get on the radio and ask for the procedure. This effectively counts as a 'popup flight plan' * If you are not competent to fly in IMC, declare a Pan-pan, and they will talk you down. In the sim........ Turn off the radios and land anyway
UKJim 502
lol OK Tim - I was just wondering because I have had this situation many times and when one is IFR all around it seem to be too - I think I will take your advice and just land anyway

Tim_A 997
I think pulling the 'chute because of a few clouds could be a bit drastic! (mind you, JFK Jr, Buddy Holly, Patsy Cline, Rocky Marciano and others might disagree...)
