We're pleased to be able to host this excellent freeware version of IWM Duxford, created by John Young and the team at ACG (Airfield Construction Group).

Duxford is situated beside the M11 motorway, eight miles south of Cambridge in eastern England and is home to the Imperial War Museum Duxford and the American Air Museum. Originally dating back to 1918, Duxford is probably best remembered as a WWII fighter airfield that was home to the 12 Group 'Bader Wing' that played a key part in the Battle of Britain. The wing was comprised of 19, 242 and 310 Squadrons and a little while later in 1940, 302 (Polish) and 611 Squadrons.

'Bader'' refers, of course, to Douglas Bader, who lost both legs in an earlier flying accident, but later fought his way back into flying and in due course to lead the wing.

This Duxford scenery is extremely detailed but has been designed with performance in mind. Virtually every building has been modelled using photorealistic textures (this product will fit seamlessly alongside VFR Real Scenery) on both the public and non-public north side of the airfield. To add dynamic interest to the scenery, an AI package of 20 historic aircraft is included as well as an optional air show pack. The museum holds several major air shows during the year and it is not uncommon to see at least 40-50 historic aircraft participating. To give a flavour of the atmosphere at these events, the air show pack contains the tents/marquees, food outlets and additional car parking not normally present on the airfield.

IWM Duxford is compatible with Flight Simulator X (SP2/Acceleration) and Flight Simulator 2004.

Many thanks to John Young and friends at the Airfield Construction Group for allowing us to host this superb re-creation of the airfield!
