dodgy-alan 1,587
The Messerschmitt BF-110 first flew in 1936 and was designed as a heavy escort fighter for the newly revived Luftwaffe. Cutting its teeth in the invasion of Poland the aircraft proved to be a tough and reliable machine especially effective against bombers and ground targets, However when it was commited to the Battle of Britain its large size and limited agility proved to be a hindrence against the fast and nimble single seat fighters it came up against and many were lost. The aircraft was constantly improved throughout WW2 and served in all theatres, It was given a major new lease of life in 1940 when it was developed into a Night Fighter. Equiped with a variety of weapons and radars it proved to be a deadly adversary against the lumbering heavy bombers and was much feared by the crews. Its high kill rate and accuracy earned it the Zerstorer (Destroyer)nickname...... Over Poland Eastern Winter Parked Lift off an early kill. Achtung Spitfire! Break break! allardjd 1,853
Very nice screenshots, Alan. I've always liked the looks and the lines of it, though from the BoB forward, much like the Stuka, it needed protecting. Being a pre-war design you can't expect it to have remained at the top of the game for the entire war. John
