UKJim 502
I really need to get the landing down a bit more - practice makes perfect suppose lol Good flight other than that though - and it shows off one of my latest planes too DOH!!!
Sabre 28
Some great shost there Jim. Goheen is a lovely little airstrip - Hanel Filed clearly needs a runway extension :D
Tim_A 997
Speed, old bean: fly the numbers! That's a nice looking grass strip at the start; where is it?
Sabre 28
That's a nice looking grass strip at the start; where is it? It's W52 Goheen Airport - Battle Ground, Washington, USA
UKJim 502
Speed, old bean: fly the numbers! That's a nice looking grass strip at the start; where is it? HEHE yeah another case of RTFM - I am obviously going to blame the runway conditions I am struggling with the approach tbh - my general rule of thumb when I have no approach plates is to start a descend from around 2000 feet about 5nm out from the strip at around 400/500 fpm - most of my GA aircraft tend to have a landing speed of around 80knots so I keep to that too with flaps full in doing this I tend to be hitting the runways half way down and then not being able to stop in time - I'm no pilot so please excuse the nooby as for me it is trial and error at the moment and still getting used to the ropes. The large airports I have no issue as the runways are HUGE. I struggle on the small airstrips
SEATAC 400
Superb shots
UKJim 502
The only thing I don't like about Goheen is you cannot select a parking spot - only runway to start from. I could modify this but in my eyes should I really need to? Why create such a superb product and miss out some small parking spots? I don't know. Still nothing against Orbx because they rock and all the work that comes out by them is fantastic.
Tim_A 997
Is it a separate addon, or part of the FTX region?
UKJim 502
Is it a separate addon, or part of the FTX region? Separate addon Tim, but fits in with the FTX scenery really well - tempted are we? Gota say its a brilliant strip but Fall City takes the biscuit. Although that is not a grass strip. PanzerFodder 0
Is it a separate addon, or part of the FTX region? Goheen is one of the cheaper airfields from Orbx http://fullterrain.com/product_usW52.html Cheer's...Graham...

The large airports I have no issue as the runways are HUGE. I struggle on the small airstrips I don't use any numbers at all - I just fly the whole thing visually! I may not always use the proper procedures, but it works a charm. Think of it like flying a Cub - you rarely check the instruments, and you spend most of your time looking out the cockpit and flying by feel alone. The A2A Cub (w/ Accusim) is perfect for this. But seriously, this is how I learned to fly in the simulator; and, although I was terrible at first, I learned quickly and now I feel like I can fly anything! P.S. After flying in the sim like this for ~ 2 years, I took my first real flight lesson, and was surprised at how similar it was to flying in the simulator. I used the same techniques as described above (under my instructor's discretion), and realized that they worked quite nicely. After we parked, my instructor said I did very well! UKJim 502
I have the cub and that glides nicely down - some of these bigger GA aircraft tend to want to hit the tarmac faster so it makes it harder for me

pacinka 0
Jim, I agree with you. I also have the Skymaster, and I find quite challenging to land (more so than other GA aircraft). I think I must have snapped those twig-like landing gear more than a few times! But... practice makes perfect!
UKJim 502
Cheers sabre maybe wen I chose the strip in flight planning I didn't allow time for the position field to update! I will check this! It did seem strange that orbx did not put these in
