Hello,

I am looking at upgrading the default textures in FSX and I have come across two products which look excellent - Ultimate Terrain Europe X and Active Sky 2012.

THese both appear to do a similar job, so would the experts here recommend one, or the other or both? Would there be any incompatibility if both were installed and what would I get out of using both products?

Thanks

Dave

Hi and welcome David.

I have Ultimate Terrain X and GEX textures running together for Europe, and they work very well together IMO, I use REX for my skys so can't comment about AS 2012 but most people here say that its very good indeed.

Here is a post I did a few months ago so you can see what it all looks like before you spend any cash http://forum.mutleys...f-woai-as-well/

No they don't do the same thing. Ultimate Terrain is a terrain vector enhancement (coastlines, rivers, roads etc), and Active Sky is a weather engine, with some replacement sky and cloud textures.

Hi Dave,

If you want new ground textures, something like GEX from Flight1 would be a good start depending on the region you fly. FsceneX is an alternative but IMHO are a little brash. AS2012 has some great textures, REX would be the alternate choice.

Hope this helps.

The ultimate Terrain series improves the terrain and the roads and coastlines...active sky 2012 is a weather engine that has replacement textures for clouds, water, sky, runway textures, runway markings, taxiway markings, reflections on runways, airport signs, approach lighting, roads and railroad tracks, lens flares, and lightning.

it even has a simple flight planner and of course all the pre flight weather info you could possibly want, and runs the weather inside fsx VERY well...no complaints here.
