UKJim 502
I'm looking to maybe hit one of these, I like addons and have a 'real' experience, so wot do people recommend here? Cheers Jim
charlie 6
I'm a Railworks 3 advocate. Lots of addons around and on Steam. Better looking than the Trainz series in my view.
hurricanemk1c 195
It all depends what you want. Train Simulator 2012/RailWorks 3 is payware, has a lot of content available and has good graphics (rain drops, bouncing etc), whilst Open BVE is free, although with quite a bit of content. The more realistic option is OpenBVE, as it has more systems modelled (TPWS, AWS, reasonable gear changes) but TS2012 has the bettetr graphics. It all depends on what you want (again!) I actually use both - here's a couple of shots of RW3 with Oovee Simulation's Class 156 (the stuff they make is the most realistic in TS2012) OpenBVE is easier to edit and you can have what you want - no default stuff. I have helped develop stuff for Open BVE, namely some Irish trains like this open As you can see, it's a toss up between realism or graphics. Having said that, Network West Midlands has recently been upgraded and looks great (Class 350/2 used) Trainz is more for people who like building routes quickly and easier - a bit like virtual railway modelling OK - relevant websites : RailWorks - www.railsimulator.com Just Trains - www.justtrains.net Oovee - http://www.oovee.co.uk/ IHH - http://www.ironhorsehouse.co.uk/ (it doesn't seem to be working right now) UK Train Sim - http://www.uktrainsim.com/ RW Train Sim - http://rs-trainsim.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=forum Open BVE - http://trainsimframework.org/ BVE TMD - http://bvetmd.org.uk/index.htm Celtic Train Sim - http://www.celtictrainsim.com/frontpage.html BVE4Trains - https://sites.google.com/a/bve4trains.com/bve4trains/ RailSimRoutes - http://www.railsimroutes.co.uk/index.php Train Sim Stuff - http://www.trainsimstuff.org/home There's more, but that should set you on your way. If anymore infomation is needed, feel free to PM me Have fun!

UKJim 502
I have had a read and I think I may go for railworks 3 - get sum addons too cuz they are cheap enough! Might download the BVE one too as its free! Try it out etc! Nice links thanks! Jim
hurricanemk1c 195
No bother - as I said, I use both - one for graphics and one for pure realism. I did point out to RailSim that BVE2 (released in the early 2000's) had raindrops on the windscreens and the cab swayed, but that seemed to miss them until the released of RW3 As I said, any questions fceel free to ask. I'll try and answer them the best I can
M31 0
I've often thought of trying one of the underground Train sims that I think Aersosoft do? I've seen one for the London Underground that is a rail network I've used a lot in the past for real, might be fun to try ... I'm not sure? I've even seen some pretty serious looking train sim controller hardware out there for these sims, so I'm sure there is some deep simulating to be done here. As a side note, I recently bought the Dive to Titanic PC sim/game as an impulse buy, its quite good actually and it was quite a thrill when I eventually did find the Titanic using the sonar to guide me ... I'll maybe pop some screenshots up here someday in a separate thread. http://www.excalibur-publishing.com/titanic.htm
