britfrog 180
I have a realtek sound card on my motherboard which gives excellent quality music/sound when combined with my altec lansing top of the range speaker system, however when i "fly" i frequently don a HP headset so as not to disturb swmbo who has her p.c. in the same office and i find that i get excellent sound from the Hp USB headset like the sound of the pmdg ngx engines however the speaker system despite having loads of adjustments does not sound anywhere near as good, also there are some switches when touched in the cockpit make sound on the headset and not on the speakers and vice versa. similsrly the V1 calls are not heard on the headset but are heard on the speakers and again vice versa. Is there way of setting up the speakers to reproduce all the sounds? in fsx all the sliders are half way across the slides would putting them all to the right help? if i use the realtek audio manager the speaker config is set as stereo (i have 2 speakers on the desk both with tweeters and a boom box on the floor) should this be set as a 5.1 system? or simply stereo? it just seems so bizarre that the usb sound albeit with a headset seems so much better than a speaker system plugged into the green socket at the back of the p.c has anyone any ideas? britfrog 180
Hi Mike thanks for the info i agree there is no substitute for a good set of speakers which is why the speakers i have are these : http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/computer-speakers/altec-lansing-expressionist-ultra-mx6021-review-49305194/ with 200w music sounds awesome on them and great bass as well however i am lead to believe that a dedicated sound card will give better sound than the one on a new motherboard is this so? i think the problem i have may be down to 2 things plugging in the headset after firing up fsx and also some pmdg created anomalies, for example if i sit in the cockpit i can barely hear the engines turn 90 degrees left or right and i get the full sound just like sitting in the wing seat so i guess this is a pmdg thing, however if i plug in the usb headset after firing up fsx i get the engine sounds but no switch sounds or call outs . it isnt a great hassle but i am getting to understand the problem better
mutley 4,495
I got to try this out,I am sure my USB headset is not feeding back everything my Bose speakers do. Thanks for all the chat.
britfrog 180
well at least it isn t just me, I vaguely recall someone mentioning something about sound problems on the pmdg site soon after the ngx was released i also seem to remember that one of their developers considered it to be a minor irritation and not something that he would lose any sleep over , however i may be imagining this. But there is something ringing a bell and i think one advisor from pmdg suggested changing some settings in one of the cfg files, again i could be dreaming this. What i find strange is that on the headset i get a really good full engine sound in the cockpit whilst on the speakers the sound is a bit weedy when looking ahead however works properly when looking 90 degrees left or right and this was with the usb disconnected (i think) However i shall try to play a bit more tomorrow and report back my findings. jaydor 345
The bell ringing is from the church next door.. No! I mean the bell ringing is from the audio file looping. You can stop this by increasing your virtual memory. I did a post awhile back in relation to this and the link is below. But some of the screenies have dissapeared due to the sever they were on being destroyed by a hacker. The start and end are there so its just follow through once you start. http://forum.mutleyshangar.com/index.php/topic/8239-a-simple-virtual-memory-improvment-to-fsx/#entry65075
