MartinW 0
The latest idea: Everyone that learns to drive has to have at least 100 lessons, at £20 each that’s £2000. Why is it that this so-called 'labour' government insists on introducing policies that make the poor worse off? :sadblinky: Young rich boy won't have a problem at all will he, mummy and pops will just hand over the dosh, lets face it they wipe their bums on that sort of money. However the poor once again won't be able to afford it, so rich boy will be able to fund his lessons without a problem from daddies burgeoning wallet but the less well off will just have to have to get lost. It disgusts me, toll roads, increasing petrol prices supposedly to combat global warming, suggestions that we should pay to enter a city centre, seems to me that they don’t give a damn about the poor.
mutley 4,498
True enough Martin they have tried to sell out to "Middle England" but I can see through their tricks. Got my council tax bill today, a 6.8% price hike. That's three years of pay rises for me (If I'm a good boy) my cash flow is like a one-way tide always going out grr... MartinW 0
Well in Solihull Mut we are absolutely hammered for council tax, you wouldn't believe how high it is. The government penalise Solihull because basically we manage our services well, and I assume they think we are all millions. Hence the 175 redundancies and more to follow. This explains how we suffer: Last year we received just over £125.3m, £47.6m of which comes from Central Government in the form of a grant. £77.7m came from Council tax. This year, Government has given us a grant of £48.68m. This works out to £244 per head compared to a metropolitan Council average of £462. The government has given us £1m more than last year - some 2.2%. This compares to an average increase in the West Midlands of 3.6% and an average national increase of 3.3%. In a nutshell, we get significantly less than other Councils. On top of this, the Government states that we are not allowed to raise Council Tax by more than 5%. Good news? No-one wants to pay high taxes. But there is a downside. For every 1% less we ask for in Council Tax, we have £800,000 less to spend on services for you. The hard fact is that, taking into account our Government settlement, the restrictions placed on us around Council Tax, and all the services we have to provide, we are facing making at least £7m savings this year. http://www.solihull.gov.uk/section.asp? ... geNumber=8 I pay a fortune and I live in a small three bedroom house, link detached.
