Problems with USB hub

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new powered USB hub (D-Link DUB-H7) to run my ever expanding arsenal of flight sim hardware. But it won't work.

When I plug it in the system sees it, and the blue light on the hub is on. But it is not actually recognized by the PC. Anything that I plug into the hub is not recognized. the hub shows up in device manager under other devices and shows as enabled but not working.

I contacted D-Link anv verified there are no drivers neccesary for this hub, other than that their customer support is useless.

I plug it inot my wife's laptop and it works fine so there is obviously nothing wrong with hub itself.

I have another powered hub that shows up in device manager under USB controllers.

I tried every USB port on my PC and it made no difference.

It is an intel quad core Q9300 running at 2.5GHZ, with Windows 7 x64 home premium with 8GB RAM. My wifes laptop has the same OS, but is a dual core AMD. ASUS P5ND motherboard.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why it woould not work on my pc or why it shows under other devices?

I realize my PC is getting old and It's about time for an upgrade, but that run about $1,000.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem with the system thinking my usb interface wasn't usb2 and it would not recognise my headphones.

It all worked fine after I reinstalled Windows 7, hopefully you will not have to do that.

Richard - this may sound stupid but can you turn off your computer and then TURN OFF THE POWER? Someone told me this helps in some situations.

Good Luck, anyway!

Cheers - Dai.

What do you mean turn of the computer and then turn off the power? Do you mean unplug the computer after it is off?

While the hub is connected or connect the hub after it is rebooted?

Shut PC down, unplug and remove the battery. Leave for a few minutes so that residual power can dissipate. When you replace the battery and mains power, reboot. Yes connect the Hub (power on) before reinstalling the battery.

Be aware SOME laptop models do not have a motherboard battery, utilising the main battery instead. If that is the case with your machine, you will need to reset the clock/date etc in the BIOS. See the handbook for your laptop, that should tell you which key to hold down on bootup. Usually DELETE or F2.

EDIT:- sorry just realised your wife's PC is the laptop, no worries. Just switch off and unplug, leave a few minutes and proceed as above. Ignore the BIOS instruction.

May sound obvious, but have you checked for MOBO driver and BIOS updates? If your system is getting on in years, there's a good chance that the drivers and BIOS could be well out of date, especially if you're attaching new devices to it...
