dodgy-alan 1,587
A B-24 Liberator is on patrol over the Marshall Islands all seems to be going well suddenly the fire warning comes on. the engine is quickly shut down Rather than fall into Japanese hands they head out to sea. manouvering the aircraft is difficult as she turns into the dead engine. they manage to get to the USAAF base at Tinian the aircraft is quickly steered off the runway onto the coral sand the crew evacuate, but as the fire reaches the brake lines they can only watch as the stricken aircraft rolls down the hill ,narrowly missing one of the resident B-29s, to finish up in the soft sandy mud at the bottom! hurricanemk1c 195
Interesting little story there Alan! Of course, we wouldn't want to hit one of the atomic bombers would we?
