In the Saab 340 thread, we diversified into some ins and outs of repainting, so I thought I'd start a new thread explaining some aspects of repainting. Maybe it's good idea to have a look at the tutorial I made for flightsim.com as well, you'll find it here. Here, I will be open for questions that you may have, and give tips and tricks. So let's start at the basics: you want to repaint an aircraft. For that, you will need two pieces of software: - DXTbmp, which is available here: http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm - a graphics program

Don't panic just yet, everything is hard in the beginning. I use the 'export to editor' at the bottom left in dxtbmp. You may have to set up gimp as your editor in dxtbmp before you can do this. You can then edit the file to your hearts content, save it as bmp and import it back into dxtbmp. Look here: but this is if you want to convert existing textures. Alternatively, and much better, you may download the official paintkit which you will find here: http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=107&t=35777 and then create you own paintscheme from

Open them dds files in dxtbmp, then you can export them to gimp

VH-EAL of Qantas Empire Airways. Originally C-47A-20-DK c/n 13084 42-93199, it flew with the RAAF as A65-49 VH-CIE before joining Qantas in 1946 as VH-EAL (this paint), and later VH-EBH and VH-EBW. It went to Brain & Brown as VH-BAA (an earlier paint) in 1960 and flew with them until 1979. It was then taken to the Warbirds Aviation Museum in Mildura, but was moved to Alice Springs in 1995 to join the Central Australian Aviation Museum, where it is now painted in the colors of VH-EWE of Connair.

sure, but some paintkits are in psd format, if paintshop can open those then yes. And carenado for sure, they only give you white textures anyway

You'll need a graphic program and dxtbmp. I use photoshop, but the freeware gimp is fine as well. I have a tutorial on flightsim.com: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/content.php?17150-Repainting-in-Microsoft-Flight-Simulator

I have my aircraft and scenery on a different drive from my P3D folder, and they are linked through a junction. The simobjects and scenery folders are there in P3D, but they are empty and linked to the same folders on another drive. I think I used a program called junction link magic for it, but am not completely sure. When I install a plane or scenery, the installer thinks it is installing on C:, but in reality they end up on my D:
