Built in 1944, it received USAAF serial 42-93010, but went to the RAAF, becoming A65-46 with call sign VH-CIC. In 1948, it went to the Department of Civil Aviation as VH-CAR. It was sold to Qantas in 1961, becoming VH-EDC, and leased to Fiji Airways between April 1965 and June 1966. Qantas sold it to Quensland Pacific trading in 1971, which sold it in turn to Bush Pilots Airways in 1972. It went to Air Queensland in 1982, Air Rambler in 1988 and South Pacific Airmotive in 1992. It was forced to ditch of Botany Bay, Sydney in 1994 due to engine failure just after take-off, with all 24 people on board surviving without major injuries. The aircraft was recovered, but deemed uneconomical to repair, it was thus withdrawn from use. The wreck of the aircraft was used in the TV series 'the Pacific' and is now owned by Jason Burgess, who moved it to a farm near Swan Hill.
brett 2,316
Wow, your really going to town on the C-47, I guess their is no shortage of liveries for an aircraft that has been around as long as this baby. Nicely done.
jankees 917
NO, I can keep painting this aircraft for the rest of my life I think.. VH-AGU, which was originally constructed for the USAAC in 1944 as a C-47B-35-DK and allocated the military serial 44-76336. In February 1945 it was acquired by the RAAF and allocated the serial A65-72. Operated until 1959, it was then sold to Adastra Airways and converted for civil use. In October 1964 the aircraft was re-registered to Sepal Pty Ltd, but in October 1969 it was acquired by Adastra Aerial Surveys Pty Ltd. Adastra Aerial Surveys was acquired by East-West Airlines Ltd in April 1973 and VH-AGU was re-registered to East-West Airlines on 12 November 1974. East-West won the MLS trials support contract in December 1974 and VH-AGU was re-painted in East-West colours at Tamworth in the month prior to positioning at Melbourne/Essendon for the commencement of the contract on 25 January 1975. The contact was for 3 years with options to extend and it appears to have been extended twice before terminating on 10 August 1979. At some stage in the late 1970s the aircraft was transferred to South Coast Aviation, another East-West subsidiary. The aircraft was withdrawn from service in August 1979 at Essendon at the conclusion of its Departmental charter, and sold to Aerodyne Pty Ltd of Moorabbin. It was badly damaged when a Piper Cherokee ran into it at Brisbane in 1988, but it was repaired and is still current, owned by Jeffrey Trapett of Victoria, who had it painted in a USAF Vietnam camouflage paint scheme. http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/file/5920-manfred-jahns-c-47-adastra-aerial-surveys-vh-agu/

jankees 917
VH-EAL of Qantas Empire Airways. Originally C-47A-20-DK c/n 13084 42-93199, it flew with the RAAF as A65-49 VH-CIE before joining Qantas in 1946 as VH-EAL (this paint), and later VH-EBH and VH-EBW. It went to Brain & Brown as VH-BAA (an earlier paint) in 1960 and flew with them until 1979. It was then taken to the Warbirds Aviation Museum in Mildura, but was moved to Alice Springs in 1995 to join the Central Australian Aviation Museum, where it is now painted in the colors of VH-EWE of Connair.
