dodgy-alan 1,587
BKS Air Transport was formed in 1951 at Southend Airport, by James Barnby, Thomas Keegan and Cyril Stevens. Initially using DC3s on domestic routes they soon expanded to other European destinations. The DC3s were joined with Vickers Vikings and Airspeed Ambassadors, Other aircraft were added as the airline grew including a Bristol 170 Freighter, Vickers Viscounts, HS748s and Bristol Britannias. In 1969 the first of their Trident fleet was added and they expanded to cover many Mediteranean destinations as well as ever more domestic services. By now their main hub was London Heathrow and they had become part of the growing British Air Services network with Cambrian Airways. This organisation was 70% owned by BEA and 30% by the BKS and Cambrian management. In November 1970 the airline was rebranded Northeast Airlines and then in 1973 was absorbed into the all encompassing British Airways. The last official Northeast flight was in 1976 and after that the name was dropped. BKS is now largely forgotten but it has a personal meaning to me. Opposite where I used to live in Hounslow was a BKS booking agents shop. In the window they had a massive display model of an Airspeed Ambassador, to a 4 year old boy this was the stuff of dreams and I would gaze loningly at it whenever I got the chance. It gave me my first interest in aviation and I've never forgotten it!.......Here are just a few of this airlines fleet. Bristol Britannia Vickers Viscount 700 Viscount 800, Hawker Siddeley Trident 2 Thank you for flying with BKS. comments welcome.

brett 2,316
Through the eyes of a child. Great selection of classic airliners and nice shots of them. Thanks for the history lesson. I love the Trident 2, for some reason I like the look of planes with the upper tail mounted engines.

dodgy-alan 1,587
Nice shots Alan - have you got the latest Viscounts? Yes Kieran, the Viscounts are from Rick Piper and are the latest versions of his excellent freeware models. Hi Fli, I have over 2,000 aircraft in my hangar split between the main user stash and my reserve collection on my external drive. I just move them around as I need them. Thanks for the comments guys.
