And things got of to a good start with the most replied to PIREP in ATWC history. Leg 2: John Guest made his ATWC debut with a low and slow VFR flight in a Tiger Moth. Leg 3: After sitting out ATWC IV Rob returned to the fray and took us on a four part adventure down to Barcelona. First up was the Diamond Katana Then he had to upgrade to a Lockheed Electra in order to be able to fit in Sharon's luggage in the cargo hold After disposing of all that luggage the two of them took a scenic flight in a Mooney Bravo and the leg was completed in a DC-6 Leg 4: In leg 4 Rosario and his faithful co-pilot Gennaro managed to fit a L-1011 TriStar in to Gibraltar... Leg 5: Another ATWC debut out of the way as Brett took us on a sight seeing flight over Morocco. Leg 6: Stepping in at short notice, Kasper did a great job navigating a 737NG out to the Canary Islands. Leg 7: Micke had his hands full getting the baton out to Madeira. First an uneventful flight from Lanzarote to Gran Canaria Followed by an engine failure at FL150 forcing him to divert to Tenerife And then his Quest Kodiak was almost taken out of the skies by an Airbus due to some dodgy ATC work. Leg 8: And finally our resident mad man Andrew, who is flying the whole challenge on his own on the side, got us safely on to Santa Maria via Lajes Air Base. First hitching a ride in a Spanish Air Force S&R mission and then taking his lovely company to their final destination in a DA40 and thus ends the first section of ATWC 5. See you all in Section 2. Leg 10: Nigel had an exciting flight in the Bermuda Triangle. Using a total of four airplanes he finally got us as far as Saint MartinFirst his A320 lost all navigation instruments and communications over the ocean forcing a diversion in to Nassau He then found a C172 that took him as far as Exuma International... Where he managed to hitch a ride on a United 757 down to Puerto Rico And for the final part of the leg he piloted a 737 into Juliana Leg 11: A VC-10 was Kierans choice of transportation into the tight airport at E.T Joshua Leg 12: Kasper took a selection of helicopters on a tour around the south Caribbean, although the first part was flown in the majestic B-29. Followed by a Bell 47 in M.A.S.H colors (where's Hawkeye??) An Aerospatiale Lama S&R unit was then put to the test Followed by a Bell UH-1 Huey. He then tested a Erickson AirCrane... ... and finished the helicopter extravaganza in a H21 But wasn't all. To finish of the leg he also took a ride in a Lockheed Hudson. Leg 13: Rob totally misunderstood Joes request to cut on the costs and use a small civilian aircraft and rented a Vulcan for his flight... Leg 14: Marcellus had some technical difficulties with his PC-12.... ... and limped in to Quito in a bus!!!! Leg 15: John had a royal (?) escort on his flight in a Sea Vixen Leg 16: Brian had to resort to a Mearsk cargo ship to get him to his departure airport. After that he took a bunch of backpackers up to Cuzco in a Twin Otter Where he then proceeded to borrow a LanceAir Legacy that he landed firmly at his destination in Juliaca Leg 17: Micke kept heading south in his Beech Duke "GET REAL". Leg 18: Brett, that for once managed to avoid getting thrown in jail, got a Cessna T210M in perfect condition for close to nothing in a blind auction, that he then flow down to El Loa in Chile. Leg 19: James, and his mystery friend Carla, flew a colorful CRJ (?) into the middle of nowhere, Argentina. Leg 20: Andrew then finished the section of in style. First in a Beech B200 King Air... .. and then kept going in to Santiago with a Cessna C337 Skymaster That's all for section 2 folks.. see you in section 3. Link to post Share on other sites

It took him a total of 4 mid-air refuelings to get to his destination! Leg 22 Jess then ended up occupying almost all of the available parking space at her destination flying a 777 into the Gambier Islands Leg 23 Dai suffered an engine fire in his Beaver ending up stranded some way from his destination Luckily a Tahiti based helicopter company sent an Ecureuil AS.350 to pick him up the following day. Leg 24 George then took us all on what is most likely the longest ATWC leg ever after his 747 lost all navigation equipment in mid-flight. That flight saw him unexpectedly arrive in Kodiak Alaska After that he made a mad dash for Rartonga in the following aircrafts. A Douglas C124 Globemaster 2 A 737-200 A Heron A Piaggio A Boeing 767 An Airbus A340 An Ilyushin Il-18 An Airbus A300B4 And finally a Nimrod (I hope that was all of them ) Leg 25 Kasper continued pressing on over the Pacific in a two-parter. First up was a Noratlas Followed by a Spartan Leg 26 Brett then took a grounded old timer on a remembrance flight in a BAE 146-300, landing on fumes. Leg 27 John then finished the section with a flight in to the northern parts of New Zeeland in "Rusty" the DC-3 Link to post Share on other sites
