Orbx Release FTX: Global Iceland (Complete) Free Demo

Recommended Posts

Orbx have released the FTX Global Iceland (complete) free demo. This includes all FTX Global elements, BASE, openLC, and VECTOR, for Iceland. It also includes a free demo of PILOT’S FSGlobal 2010 FTX Edition elevation mesh.

There are two versions, FTX Global installed, and FTX Global NOT installed, and it is important you choose and install the correct version.

Further information and download links are available at the following:

FTX Global installed.

FTX Global NOT installed.

Don't be put off by the use of the term "free demo" as this is a misnomer.  The best way to explain it is, Iceland was not planned for separate release under the FTX Global openLC and VECTOR products, so this is the complete product for Iceland to go with the FTX Global product range.

Cheers

Andrew

Looks good, but I can't help but wonder if it will play nicely with Aerosoft Iceland X that I have installed....

Judging by the screenshots and videos available the FTX Global textures, landclass and vectors looks much better than the Aerosoft offering, but I'd hate to have to disable the airport enhancements available in their offering.... decisions, decisions.....

I have downloaded this and will test it out after work.  I have to say I am a little confused about the vector layer and how that will roll out.

I was under the impression that the Iceland demo would be part of the vector roll out.

Will vector be a standalone product to layer over global?

Yes it will John...

From what I've gathered the Vector and OpenLC packages are designed to work with the FTX Global textures.

The Vector packages will add up to date roads, railways coastlines, lakes etc and the OpenLC packages adds enhanced land class.

If you have FTX Global you've got access to a sneak peak preview of the OpenLC packages in Lativa.. take off from EVRA and gather some altitude. Take a look out side your window, then bring up the scenery library and deactivate the FTC OpenLC layer to see the difference.... I guess it should also be possible to do the same over Iceland...
