Great picture mut, i can hear its roaring engine already. Lovely atmosphere to the picture.

in response to:

Nor have I seen a flyable one.

and

Have never seen a flyable one though.

I've always hungered after seeing one fly at an airshow, i mean just imagine this - the commentator announces the arrival of the JU-87 "Stuka" trio, you look around and cant see anything. For a few moments there's silence but then you hear the drone of their engines somewhere above. Then, suddenly, it all goes eerily quiet. You look up again and see three specks appear in the distance above you, and then you hear it. Three Stukas thundering down towards you, dive brakes extended and their sirens screaming. Then the trio do a champagne split and the show continues.... just thinking about that makes my neck hairs stand on end!

having done a scout of the internet a few times, i've found that there are in fact, very few airworthy JU-87's about, and those that are have been housed in museums with their innards stripped and so probably wouldn't ever fly again without major works.

There was, about 10 years ago, a British gentleman who'd bought the frame of a Stuka to rebuild for the airshow circuit. He got as far as registering G-STUK on the CAA register, but then de-registered the name in 2001 after lack of funds and parts availability.

There are other reports of Russian private owners and even some full scale replicats being built, but there's little to no information on them anywhere.

Alas, i think we're never going to see, or hear, the mighty roar of a JU-87 thundering down from above once more. A great loss to all i feel.
