flybytes 34 Posted March 2, 2014 Report Share Posted March 2, 2014 Have just found out that the Canadian flying Lancaster bomber will join the UK RAF Coningsby Lancaster sometime in August this year - what a treat - hope I'm fortunate to see them and able to photograph them flying together. Having been fortunate to work at RAF Coningsby and seen the loving care the technicians (men & women) spent keeping the Lancaster, Spitfire & Hurricane aircraft airworthy - my hat is off to them & whoever pursuades the MOD to provide the funding. flybytes 34 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Report Share Posted March 3, 2014 Dai, Yes, they are meeting up here in the UK - not sure what the occasion is as various WW1 historical events are currently being commemorated; a bit before the Lancaster's time. This was a snippet I heard on my local BBC tv news - all the Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk & Cambridgeshire RAF/USAF stations are in this region so we do seem to get some first hand knowledge of their activities. If the Canadian Lancaster is indeed flying across the 'pond' that will be putting a lot of faith in its airworthiness. Ray. Link to post Share on other sites

hurricanemk1c 195 Posted March 3, 2014 Report Share Posted March 3, 2014 I would guess that it'll fly Newfoundland - Greenland/Iceland - Northern Ireland/Scotland - England, since that's the kind of route they travelled when they were originally built As for seeing them - would be a wonderful experience. britfrog 180 Posted March 3, 2014 Report Share Posted March 3, 2014 Dick at Popham flew the last lanc across the pond , well he was the engineer, they flew goose bay , narsasuaq, keflavik, wick although they didnt land unless they needed fuel, he dioes a very good after dinner presentation with photos of this flight Sadly they gave the lanc to british aerospace to overhaul and the roof fell in on it and they would not pay out for the damage nor did the insurance company so the remains were sold to Doug arnold and their whereabouts is unknown along with most of the DA airforce Link to post Share on other sites
dodgy-alan 1,587 Posted March 4, 2014 Report Share Posted March 4, 2014 The idea is that the Canadian aircraft will be given a once over by the BBMF once it arrives in Coningsby and will then go straight onto the airshow circuit. Two big shows happening right in the time slot ar Shoreham and Bournemouth both on the same day. One of my freinds is a member of the RAFA who organise the show at Shoreham and is one of the planners for the show. As well as the two flying Lancs he is trying to get hold of a couple of people who own static examples to see if they can be be brought down for the show. (Not sure if they are complete aircraft or just nose sections) The idea would be to have the largest gathering of Lancs since the 1950s. Anyway he is keeping me in the loop regarding developements so will know more later. The Canadian aircraft is only going to be around for a month before returning home. It will be a once in a lifetime event for many people, Just Jane which is based up North is unlikely to make an appearance just yet as she still has some structural problems preventing her from flying, She is nowhere near ready to be given a CAA cert to fly. However future plans are afoot to have that aircraft performing withthe BBMF Lanc, but as yet there is no date for this to happen. Link to post Share on other sites
