MyPC8MyBrain 273
first, this looks beautiful ! i can see where this fit in an architectural demo or presentation we don’t get to see such detail when we flyby i see many developer’s coming out with great work recently 3D renditions of buildings and objects, a good example is the recent NYC from Drzewiecki designs beautiful work, but the sim can barely run all these simultaneously i recently participated in efforts (may come up later on again) of using LIDAR data to generate; well… first we wanted to generate all the buildings the way we see them now in Google Earth 3D its possible, but not with the current resources and in no way under the current sim engine since full objects were too much; next we experimented with making mesh, we were able to generate the data; but then you had to stand still in place for 20 min for all the data to render a tiny hill (very accurate hill though ) my point in this long story is, designers today have great tools and can generate amazing things for our virtual environment unfortunately our platform cant carry all this data; we need an urgent upgrade to run all these great innovations (a small correction Kevin; this is a good old method of rendering 3D objects from flat images i haven’t seen it used in FSX before; though i have played around with this technology in the past, there used to be nice tool called Canoma that can help you build basic models with this technology, not for FSX though!) ddavid 149
Very impressive - reminds me of "Dirty Harry". What would be good, however, would be glass reflection on buildings. Cheers - Dai.
allardjd 1,853
Somebody better hurry and build a 64-bit simulator real soon. John
Kevin Firth 114
John, the hit on these is minimal in comparison to previous sceneries in terms of fps and memory resources I understand..but we'll test all of that when it reaches us mere beta testers
britfrog 180
I have to say I greatly admire what Sim720 are doing, as well as other devs who are all moving the goal posts further on, but have to concur with Chris as to whether we need quite such detail in fsx. after all FTX and aerosoft do it in a less precise manner which conveys sufficiently info without quite such a memory hit I am all for our sim being indestinguishable from reality, but like John I wish the p.c. manufacturers would hurry up with a 64 bit p.c.with 1 tb of memory I am no "games " player per se but have to say what some devs can do now is nind blowing
Kevin Firth 114
Difficult to see on my iPhone but those screenies look like flat textures not real interior modelling? I think as Chris said this technique hasn't been used in FSX before (certainly not much) and if these improvements make it more real at little or no performance cost then I think we should embrace them! I'll report a bit more when I've tested them and I'm allowed to will be a few more weeks I think though...
