Has anyone else tried FSX with stereoscopic 3D?

Recommended Posts

While being blown away by my new monitor I thought I would try my Nvidia 3d glasses which I have had for some time but could not use having only had 60hz monitors in the past,

Well FSX in 3D is pretty amazing , so went one step further and hooked up track IR , so now look an absolute prat with headphones on head with track ir sensor, 3D glasses over reading glasses,

beam me up Scotty!

all joking aside when you are in the cockpit of the majestic dash 8, you are IN the cockpit, the 3D makes FSX so much better. outside views do not look that different, but the view from inside the cockpit when you are on final is pretty bloody impressive the depth of vision is pretty impressive,

Looking out of the window on the dash 8 looking at the undercarriage and engine is likewise very real.

I wish there was some way to photograph what I can see to show you guys but i cant

My only regret is that my 48" television is not 120hz now that would be humungous.

Has anyone else tried FSX with 3D??

I have in the past but only on 60hz monitors, so not good enough to make me do it full time.

Your new monitor sounds great.

Enjoy and wait until someone produces some hardware to allow 3D screenshots.

I haven't tried it yet but like Bri I only have 60mhz monitors, I have just reinstated my 3 monitor set up after seeing Brian's set up last week.

I took a 3D picture on my camera last week and when I tried to view it my system wanted to enable the stereoscopic viewing, trouble is, I chucked out a load of 3D glasses with the different colour lenses only a couple of weeks ago. I do have a pair of shutter type glasses made by Samsung that came with my TV, I wonder if they would work, especially with my 3 screen set up?

I came across this website the other day. http://seahex.com.

Interesting, but I'm not about to spend $7700 on one of these toys.

On one of their follow up pages: halfway down) there is a reference to a device called a "Fat Shark" Vision system - http://www.fatshark.com/.

Evidently, this system feeds the image from the onboard gopro camera direct to your eyeballs. I wonder if this is adaptable to watching a simulator. Seems to me that the feed from a camera and the feed from a monitor signal might be the same thing. Not the same as Track IR, but it might be the same as multiple monitors. It is also a pricey gadget.

Joe,

i use  shutter type glasses connected to the p.c. by usb connection but you need a monitor capable of 100mhz or 120 mhz for the setup to work, sadly

where the faster monitors come in is they totally stop any shadowing or blurriness as objects  move. today i was watching bike racing which was rock solid. great viewing.

with a 60mhz monitor if you move your mouse quicly from one side to the other it blurrs and is jerky with a 144hz monitor you get none of that

however 3d needs at least 100mhz.

but my goodness how it change ones perception, the 3d thing is just a bonus, it doesnt work with dx10 or so far in dx11 with p3d it is the speed and clarity of the new monitor which makes it all worthwhile, 3d you can take or leave , yes it is a bit of a gimmick, but combine that with track ir and it gives another dimension to fsx, which is very very interesting, looking around cockpits or in a cessna looking outside along the wing, and you cant help but say wow!

I have tried it in 3D on a standard 6hz monitor using those red/blue glasses by going through the set up menu in the Nvidia control panel.

Works pretty good albeit a bit dark. Never experienced the effect of a true 3D monitor though.
