There's a lot going on down your way Nigel at the moment.

Gotta say I love watching lightning from the safety of my conservatory, but no so much when flying!

So Luxemburg to Zurich looked good for a stormy ride and what does REX give me? Clear skies, 30 mile vis.   :gaah:

Hope you not getting a thrashing there Nigel.

well it has been interesting here but Switzerland has caught an absolute packet.

I havent read any papers but for 2 or 3 hours yesterday we were watching multiple strikes per second . If i lived there it would have to be in a bunker :)

I would love to know how the program works. none the less i find it compulsive watching

I can vouch for its accuracy, on their site last night I watched the storms coming up through France towards my direction. All I had to do was turn in my chair and watch the lightning show coming in over the English Channel. It beat anything I have ever seen. Continuous, sustained horizontal and vertical flashes filled the sky. Strong gusts of wind with hail added to the drama. This went on for over an hour.

And as I type this here comes another storm. Bring it on!

PS. On their map earlier there were storms all around Paris, so I fire up FSX and REX... er hum real time weather and just got a few clouds. Are ASN any better at giving accurate RW weather?

I also try at times to capture the moment with REX because we get some very high winds here which are a challenge to land in, Rex Stough at REX did a bit of work in my p.c. and he found REX relies on the american date format  and this sometimes makes REX give you historic weather rather than the current weather it is a fault they are trying to fix. in the meantime if you find this is the case in your situ change the date format in your p.c. and it should give you the correct weather

the other thing to bear in mind is that the weather at Paris may not have been reported yet as the bad weather had just arrived, next time you try to do this look at the metar for the airport you are at and firstly look at the date and time of the metar this will tell you if it is curreent or historic , I found in many of my cases that the weather being created was from a different day altogether, hence no lightning in your case.
