Aeropostale - ready to go !

It's been going faster than I thought, I have now done the 35 flight plans in Plan G, I have found all the freeware sceneries for the airfields where I plan to land ( although I could have to land on some I didn't plan following weather and VFR navigation... :)  ).

 

I have selected the three planes I will be using : ( considering that although it will be all VFR, it will be flown today and not in the 1920s - but I looked for old designs ) and made some training flights.

 

[ - a nice freeware tri motor Junkers JU 52  for the Europe/ Africa part  ( I wanted to try something else than the usual DC3 ) in a red Lufthansa "Manfred von Richthofen" repaint.  ( a reminder of my interest in WW1 planes and pilots)

- an Alabeo Waco YMF5 for the South America part from Fernando de Noronha down to Punta Arenas

- another nice freeware Beechcraft D18s "Twin Beech" cargo for the Buenos Aires - Santiago branch across the Andes]

I have read and gathered enough websites on the matter to be able to illustrate my flying with historical references in the blog.

 

I paid a visit to an aero-club not far from Toulouse where is stationed a flying replica of the first Breguet XIVs which started opening the routes after WW1. I already had seen this plane in meetings around here.

 

I will be following ( and giving news of ) the real Toulouse - Saint Louis (Sénégal) 10.000 kms rally organized every year which will take place this year from Sept 28th to Oct 10th with 17 teams.

 

I should open the blog this week with a general presentation and the first flight Toulouse - Barcelona with the "Tante Ju" should follow soon.

EDIT 08.09 :

 

After reading the reports of other people who did the same flights online with FS9 a few years ago, I have changed my mind about the planes, to be closer to the real planes actually used.

 

The Junkers 52 is finally too big and it will be replaced by a Tiger Moth which flew first in 1931 and is closer to the early biplanes which opened the Toulouse - Dakar routes

 

The Beechcraft Twin Beech is a late aircraft and a twin engine, and it will be replaced by a Stinson Reliant, also from 1931, which is closer to the Potez 25 used by Guillaumet and others for the Andes crossing.
