Comet landing tomorrow!

Philae comet lander awakes from hibernation

Not the most highbrow of sources but it's the first place I've seen this reported.

EDIT

"...and has 24 Watts available..."

Watts is a rate, not a quantity, much like knots which most of us are more familiar with.  I wonder if he means Watt-hours.  That's not much, of course, but given the circumstances we should be pleased there's even that much available.

Ah the joys and sorrows of time delay near zero G drone flying. That they hit the target after 10 years of chasing the landing field with frozen hibernating robots is pretty incredible in and of itsel

Well said Matt.    If I may be so bold....

excuse my skepticism but just what incredible increase in man's knowledge is the billions spent on this escapade going supply? is it going to cure the worlds pollution? perhaps supply water to those w

Yep, seems Philae is awake and has contacted home.

On its blog, ESA said Philae had contacted Earth, via Rosetta, for 85 seconds on Saturday in the first contact since going into hibernation in November.

"Philae is doing very well. It has an operating temperature of -35C and has 24 watts available," said Philae project manager, Dr Stephan Ulamec.

Scientists say they are now waiting for the next contact.

If they can get the data back, they should have months to wade through.
