Duxford's 'Mk.I' Blenheim takes to the air

Recommended Posts

I just hope this plane is flown by a sympathetic pilot who is young and quick to react , like the aircrews were originally , not some old fogey of an squadron leader who has flown nothing but a desk all his life like the bird brain that crashed the mk4

Personally I am awaiting the completion of the Beaufighter which has been making slow progress

And the official investigation report actually attributed the cause of this accident to "...some bird brain old fogy of a Squadron Leader who has flown nothing but a desk all his life..."?  Yeah right!!!

By virtue of the career management cycle of a pilot in an air force, it is not possible to have "...flown nothing but a desk all his life...".

:faint:

Anyway, Alan I think the Mk IV was the Mk IV nose on the Mk I airframe (or the other way around), so I doubt we'll see both together as seperate aircraft.

Glad to see an early war aircraft up and running!

Yep, the other way round - it's a Mk I nose fitted to the existing Mk IV. The removed Mk IV cockpit is now an interesting exhibit in itself, in that you can stand at the open end and get a good look round the interior. Other than the IWM's Halifax nose section, I can't think of any other current WW2 British bomber exhibit where that's possible. :)
