Earth Simulations Tribute

Recommended Posts

I have Guernsey and Alderney which are quite good and would have bought IOM but didnt like their installation method or their , in my opinion, overly difficult web site. Perhaps other potential purchasers were put off like me leading to the lack of sales?

Hopefully someone will buy the rights to their software and continue to distribute it.

Hopefully we shall see them back perhaps creating scenery iin their spare time.

You are missing out big time if you do not have ES Isle of Man, Nigel. It's a masterpiece as far as I am concerned.

so it appears Chris, I used to fly there every year for the TT , the last half a dozen  times with several other a/c , i used to hire a 56 seat coach (for about 15-20 of us) driven by a lovely old boy who had a wind up gramaphone player balanced on the engine cover and he played old george formby records all day long. it was so corny it was unreal but great as well, , but he knew every little lane to get us close to the action even if the roads were closed. He always made sure we said hello to the fairies as well.

hopefully someone will take up distributing the ES stuff so that I can get it.

Purely a personal perspective...I think that ES have become a victim of their own success.  By that I mean the anti-piracy installer they chose to use which has been so successful in deterring further purchases after the first. Well, for me at least.

I bought the Trees Bundle when it came out...wonderful though they were, that frankly was enough for me. I know many likeminded souls who felt the same also. Shame that they didn't pass it on to the likes of Flight1 instead.  Perhaps if that had been the case, they would still be producing the quality scenery that they had become synonymous with; and expanding the customer base. As apposed to losing it, as seems to be the case. Product cost I do not believe is a contributor to the company's demise. A general rule of thumb being, that most if not all folk will gladly pay for quality.

Here endeth my musings for the day.

Arnie has hit it on the nail, as it was the installer that stopped me from buying any of their scenery.

If they were to make a comeback with a sensible downloader then I would buy the lot..

You have a point Arnie and James.  The scenery looks great, but if only the ES installer worked for me as it should, then I'd buy more.  There are big discounts at FlightStore at the moment.  I know how the installer is meant to work - it's not that complicated once you read the instructions - but recently I have had too many problems with it, so I've given up!

The "Boxed" versions from Flightstore do not need the internet to install but they are FSX only. In effect they are "Packs" on disc, with a key code to unlock. You would need to use the ESI 2.5 and point it to the DVD if you wanted to install into P3D, a tad more awkward. According to a post on Avsim from ES.
