dodgy-alan 1,587
Well that didn't last long, Air Atlantiques Classic Air Museum at Newquay is closing its doors and returning to Coventry. However some of the larger aircraft such as the VC-10 and BAC 1-11 will not be able to be moved. It's a shame as there had been hopes to keep these two aircraft at least Taxiable. The 1-11 has been running her engines regularly. The reason for the closure is the massive hangar rent hikes imposed by the site owners. The fate of the immovable aircraft is not yet known however moves are afoot to try and secure covered storage for them. If not then the harsh Cornish air will soon deteriorate the airframes. http://www.classicairforce.com/blog-comment?z=nqy&AID=158 http://www.classicairforce.com/

allardjd 1,853
What a shame. There's not enough money in the world to preserve and protect and display all the AC that ought to be. It's a sad fact, but it's a fact nonetheless. John
hifly 925
Damn shame really. In these days of zero inflation how can a massive hike in rent be justified. The landlords have had an offer they can't refuse from some developer perhaps?

Captain Coffee 2,030
Not sure bout the popularity of the Museum, but something like that should be encouraged at aiports/fields IM(opic)O. The Hiller Air Museum in San Carlos is a fairly popular draw for tours/money spent at the airport. Gets people in view of, and draws interest in Flight Training programs/schools there. More pilots mean more potential customers for the airfield. Discounts at least for organizations preserving aviation history should be mandatory...jeessh...don't we all LOVE the old birds? Why don't airfield owners love them too?
