I really got hung up on the Life of Brian clue and spent a lot of time following blind alleys there, including looking up the airports near some God-forsaken place in Tunisia where much of it was filmed. I still don't see the connection to between that film and the airport except the origin of the raid, I guess.

What got me there was Charles Buchinsky and the death wish comment. It was very easy to figure out who he was (Charles Bronson), but the rest came a little harder. I finally looked at the list of his films and noticed, "Raid on Entebbe". I would have gotten it from there, but by then had seen the clue about it being in the ATWC, so that clinched it. The 3rd and 4th of July, the date of the raid, when I looked it up was further confirmation.

So, in my opinion, the clues were pretty good and I enjoyed the hunt.

Will begin coming up with something devious and underhanded today - hope to post it tonight, but will be away all day tomorrow (Saturday) so won't be able to respond to guesses until late Saturday night, my time.

Well done, Boss! Completely wrong side of the globe - but I did find a couple of thirty-fives! :thum:

Please, John - make the clues even more cryptic, I really need the challenge (Not - Ed!) :mrhappy:

Cheers - Dai.

The Life of Brian clue I hoped Dai would pick up on.

Scene 7 in Life of Brian where Brian meets the man from the P.F.J

BRIAN: Are you the Judean People's Front?

REG: xxxxxxxx off!

BRIAN: What?

REG: Judean People's Front. We're the People's Front of Judea! Judean People's Front.

FRANCIS: xxxxers.

BRIAN: Can I... join your group?

REG: No. P*ss off.

BRIAN: I didn't want to sell this stuff. It's only a job. I hate the Romans as much as anybody.

PEOPLE'S FRONT OF JUDEA: Shhhh. Shhhh. Shhh. Shh. Shhhh.

REG: Schtum.

JUDITH: Are you sure?

BRIAN: Oh, dead sure. I hate the Romans already.

REG:Listen. If you really wanted to join the P.F.J., you'd have to really hate the Romans.

BRIAN: I do!

REG: Oh, yeah? How much?

BRIAN: A lot!

REG: Right. You're in. Listen. The only people we hate more than the Romans are the Judean People's Front.

P.F.J.: Yeah...

JUDITH: Splitters.

P.F.J.: Splitters...

FRANCIS: And the Judean Popular People's Front.

P.F.J.: Yeah. Oh, yeah. Splitters. Splitters...

LORETTA: And the People's Front of Judea.

P.F.J.: Yeah. Splitters. Splitters...

REG: What?

LORETTA: The People's Front of Judea. Splitters.

REG: We're the People's Front of Judea!

LORETTA: Oh. I thought we were the Popular Front.

REG: People's Front! C-huh.

FRANCIS: Whatever happened to the Popular Front, Reg?

REG: He's over there.

P.F.J.: Splitter!

Of course it was the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - External Operations (PFLP-EO) who were the hi-jackers it just made me think of that. Silly clue really :mrhappy:

This is a major international airport.

This is a major hub for a large international air carrier.

This airport serves two cities, joined at the hip.

The headwaters of a great river are near here.

The biggest airline here is 101000101.

got it: Minneapolis - St. Pauls.

Sorry John, didn't use the clues you gave, just took the easy route and did a quick search for airports with ATIS using 135.35. This came tops and wikipedia (link above) provided the confirmation by a map!

here's a guess tho to each of the clues with possible answers... :

This is a major hub for a large international air carrier. = Northwest Airlines (NWA)

The airport serves two cities = duh. Minneapolis and St. Paul (in Minnesota)

The headwaters of a great river are near here = The Mississippi of course!

The biggest airline here is 101000101 = absolutely no clue with this!

Simi - good job.

I covered up a lot of information on the airport diagram, but thought that the fact that there were four de-icing pads might suggest something in a cold climate. Also, by some careful measurements of the latitude and longitude blocks, using the difference in width and height and applying a little math it's possible to work out the latitude pretty closely. I guess I made it too easy for anyone to have to resort to that.

The binary number is 325. 325 is northwest on the compass rose - thus Northwest Airlines.

As for "something dark sleeping here..."

far too much hassle for me my friend, stick to what you know and get the job done quicker!

and as for this...

As for "something dark sleeping here..."

Wikipedia didnt say anything about the SR71 sleeping at the museum... at least that's what i assume you were referring to as 'dark'

Yes, I was referring to the Blackbird - and it's there. I've seen it with my own eyes.

You did well - no matter if you used a post-hole digger and a plumb bob, you came up with the right place.

John

EDIT: I did a little digging and found this... It's apparently no longer there. I saw it in May, 2004.

6931 (Article 128) was at Minneapolis ANG Museum. Moved to CIA headquarters in Langley, VA in 2007 where it will go on display.

Simi,

Is it Billund EKBI, Denmark?

* Not very far from here you could be found bricking it. Proximity to Legoland theme park.

* British Airways operate a franchise airline from here. Sun-Air of Scandinavia, operating for BA.

* The airport falls in the top 10 largest airports for the region. EKBI is Denmark's 2nd busiest airport.

i think i made that a bit too easy for you there Dave... it is indeed Billund, EKBI.

My guess is that the 'bricking it' clue gave it away, right??
