dodgy-alan 1,587
Night Observation Gunship System. NA/Rockwell OV-10D. Just 2 of these aircraft were built, it featured a rotating 20mm cannon underneath the aircraft slaved to an infra red camera under the nose of the aircraft. Both pilot and observer could control the weapon and it could be fired either straight ahead for normal use or rotated using a joystick in the rear cockpit. it aquitted itself well in trials and in action over Vietnam but no series production followed. The OV-10D was used in a more conventional role however and retained the FLIR turret for night roles. The gun later reappeared on the Bell Huey Cobra. This model is a 1/72 scale kit by Airfix. The model on the box incorrectly shows a pair of Sidewinders carried on sponsons next to the gun. In actual fact nothing was ever mounted next to the gun as far as I can establish, any 'winders that were carried were out on the wing stations, the aircraft was rarely seen with them in any case no matter what version of the OV-10. I've spoken to a few ex-USMC pilots who confirmed the fact. The colour scheme is based on dozens of phots found on the web as the box instructions were damn near useless. The kit itself dates from 1986 and hence is not quite as good as more modern offerings. Nevertheless after much swearing and fettling the result is this beasty. Comments welcome, thanks for viewing.
hifly 925
Good stuff Al 'Kit' Gale. I think Aerosoft do a Bronco but not in any Nam liveries.
allardjd 1,853
I assume there was some kind of cutout switch to avoid shooting off their own propellers? Looks like a bad idea to me. Nice work. Good to see it displayed next to its brother, the Mohawk. John

Captain Coffee 2,030
Nice job on both OVs Alan. Great looking models both of them. Nice rack of Camo birds you have on that table! Weird that you posted this now...as I just flew my Aerosoft OV-10 for the first time in Months last night. I was trying it out for my Central America/Mexico Special Ops hauling.
Auger 22
Aerosoft's OV-10 is one of my more fun purchases. A complete blast to fly once I figured out how to not overspeed and overtemp the engines. Used it for this year's MEBAR and now I'm trying to figure out how to afford it in AH.
