Harrier Harrassment

Recommended Posts

Suspecting that the bird burning on the ramp was a purpose set "Distraction", we were scrambled to check out a couple incoming GA craft suspected of being smugglers associated with the arson.

Slow pass by the burning aircraft before searching out my bogies:

Popped the canopy for a sec to freshen the cockpit...ie...I accidentally opened it during the departure...heh.

Cldsing in on the first suspect, probably just a taciturn radio clueless GA pilot, but we have to take a peek. After they spotted us they quickly tuned their radios correctly and confirmed their flight plan/destination, and were put into touch with ATC for the area.

Interception of bogie #2...(after a quick livery change..hehe. Forgive the "Continuity Error"...I was messing about in a new plane, and made up the story later...I was just flying around in various liveries during this flight test)

Moving in closer.

This guy is either oblivious, or an actual smuggler. He is not responding to hails.

After moving over to the other side, we get a close look inside the cargo bay, and find that it is basically empty...if they are smuggling, they are smuggling bad Mexican air...not technically illegal. We wave and let them continue on their way....satisfied that they aren't a threat.

Operation complete, on final approach.

Palm Springs is safe, this afternoon at least.

Cheers.

Capt. Coffee.

Nice ones Matt. :thum: Any bovver with the hover?

nah...i found hovering to be fairly easy on the way up, and holding a height wasn't too difficult either. Even slow mo'd around KPSP a bit while hovering. Chalk it up to experience as a heli fan. Decreasing height however is a BEOTCH...very very very hard for me to throttle back slightly enough to reduce height in a hover without it dropping like a rock.

I probably need to read the manual as usual :D.

I just love to hop into a new plane and try to figure it out "on the fly"...a skill I want, in the event that the only unlocked plane on a ramp is something I've never simmed before. :whis:  ;)  :pilotic:

Have to admit Matt that I generally do the same. Kick the tyres/tires and light the fyres/fires when I get a new ryde/ride. Just take it for a spin/spyn, (Ed. stoppit now!) and read the manual later if needs be. I have their Corsair and enjoy a fast blast in that. :D

Thanks all. It's a super intercept jet for local traffic...able to keep pace with the slowest aircraft, although a heli would out nimble it below 70 kts. It is a butt basher to learn to vtol, stol below 70kts is tricky too. Sigh I have taken a couple catastrophic Reputation hits for landings in AirHauler. Hey...you knew i would soon enough. You can pack a lot of snakes into the external tanks.

Great pics Mr Coffee sir.  I assume that the Harrier is the Razbam one?

As for the hover dropping like a rock, welcome to ground effect!  If you decrease you throttles too quickly you remove the ground effect cushion you are hovering on, no cussion and down you go!

Its a hard thing to master, practice is the only answer!
