dodgy-alan 1,587
BEA Trident 2 on a charter flight. Model is by the great Dave Maltby for FS2004, but adapted for FSX. Thanks for viewing.
mutley 4,498
Love this model, it reminds me of happy days spotting them at Heathrow in the 70s!
brett 2,316
Nice shots Alan, I'm surprised you found one to fly since they didn't make many. Kidding aside, why is it every time I look up info on British aircraft there is mention of it could have been a contender if not for the corporate and government intervention? A shame because you guys made some great aircraft.
dodgy-alan 1,587
Nice shots Alan, I'm surprised you found one to fly since they didn't make many. Kidding aside, why is it every time I look up info on British aircraft there is mention of it could have been a contender if not for the corporate and government intervention? A shame because you guys made some great aircraft. We had a great aircraft industry at one point, but government intervention coupled with BEA and BOACs meddling meant that many promising airliners were so closely tailored to their needs that they became difficult to sell elsewhere. The Trident being a case in point, it was supposed to be a bigger aircraft from the start but BEA insisted that they did not want a larger aircraft. However they quickly realised their folly when the Boeing 727 began operations. The Trident 3 was a larger version but arrived too late to steal Boeings lead. That coupled with very noisy engines ensured that the aircraft never reached it's full potential. The last ones operating were in China and Africa, (the latter being retired BA aircraft that were sold into an area with less strict noise and emission regulations.)Of the many that were built very few complete aircraft still survive, yet at one time 2 out of 3 aircraft coming into, or departing Heathrow was a Trident. Most British aviation enthusiasts still mourn the loss of the Trident, VC-10, BAC1-11 and Comet etc.
hifly 925
Very true Al and don't get me started on that subject. That's a very nice Trident considering it was originally for FS9.

adrians69 159
Great shots of a classic! There is an almost complete one at Manchester aviation viewing park, it is all there except the wings have been clipped to fit it into it's parking area. Visitors are welcome to go inside and have a look around including flight deck!
dodgy-alan 1,587
Great shots of a classic! There is an almost complete one at Manchester aviation viewing park, it is all there except the wings have been clipped to fit it into it's parking area. Visitors are welcome to go inside and have a look around including flight deck! That's the one that was at Heathrow for many years, It was used for ground training by Tug drivers and also engineers. I too have been inside it when it was parked up at BAs tech area near Hatton Cross. The wings were clipped then, as it was not envisaged that she'd be flying again. She was kept in immaculate condition and was the only Trident ever to carry the Grey and Blue Landor colour scheme.
