Captain Coffee 2,030
Terrific news Steph. Odd to me however that something so dramatically addresses an often mentioned problem isn't more visible on the support forums, and that devs and/or "support forum junkies" didn't rather quickly suggest: "Oh, trees on the runways?, have you tried Wolter's terrain.cfg?" when you initially asked for help over there. Strange how your terrain.cfg would get corrupted on each installation but the main thing is (hopefully) the curse has been broken. Happy flying! Thanks Joe.. happy to be among the flying again! Yep, I was quite astounded when i read the post. I have now checked another 8 locations mentioned in the Orbx forums as having trees in odd places and they are all behaving on my PC now. 2 hours ago, Captain Coffee said: Terrific news Steph. You and me both!! I've updated the Orbx posts that i was involved in and shared the page with Wolter's file but not sure how many people will pick it up. If it helps more than a handful of people then i'm happy.
brett 2,316
Happy to hear you found a fix Steph, it's takes a lot of searching to hopefully find that little nugget of info that works and you lucked in. Just to note that the great Lumberjack fix, I had used in for years, only works on the default scenery as far as I know. The good news is that with a judicious use of autogen and having the newer sceneries it is rarely needed. Enjoy being back into the wild blue yonder......
hlminx 301
Thanks Brett.. you wouldn't believe how bereft i've been without my weekly dose of FSX. 15 hours ago, brett said: Just to note that the great Lumberjack fix, I had used in for years, only works on the default scenery as far as I know. Just as well that i didn't need it in the end, although it does beg the quesiton as to why ORBX haven't sorted this one out yet. Its obviously causing a LOT of agro out there in the community. brett 2,316
Probably 'cause they have other fish to fry and it doesn't affect that many people. At the least, they should pin the fixes or create a section in the forum for tips such as these.
Schaefer 1
Hi Steph! I too, have been away from my flying adventures during the summer. I have just come back from vacation and saw that this thread was alive again. So, my thanks for Andrew for reminding me to look at the nice icons, (not always easy on a smart phone) and to Steph please accept my gender faux pas. Totally mea culpa as I was intent at looking at the content and missed the packaging. I have noted your further discoveries and will keep them in mind for when I am able to save up for a new machine. Until then Happy Flying and keep in mind that flying is like riding a horse - it is not dependent on your gender but your skills and the temper of your mount. I have fallen of a horse on numerous occasions and do not want to try the other option:0) All the best. Bruce
Paughco 6
That terrain.cfg thing works! I downloaded it from this ORBYX forum link: http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/61832-ftx-global-install-issue/#comment-1087199. I unzipped it, and copied into my main FSX folder. Trees are where they're supposed to be!! WooHOO!! Seeya ATB
