dodgy-alan 1,587
If you thought the Jet Biplane was weird, wait until you see this thing! The Bartini-Beriev VVA 14 was a strange mix of VTOL (projected)Amphibious Ekranoplan and true Aircraft designed for ASW work among other tasks during the 1970s. Until now there has not been a representation of this aircraft for FSX or FS2004. Well now there is finally. Admittedly it's by no means perfect, there is only a static VC and a 2D panel with few working bits. The sound was slaved to the default learjet and even the developer suggests giving it something with more balls. This I duly did by borrowing the panel and the engine sounds from my B47! The panel may not be accurate but its the nearest I had to the original and at least it works! Externally the model is not up to what we've come to expect from most FSX aircraft these days but it's still usable, and as it's the only VVA-14 out there i'll keep it until something better comes along. It's a futuristic looking aircraft that would look right at home in a script of Thunderbirds, I love it You get two different versions of the aircraft, one has permanently fixed floats and is a true amphibian, whilst the other has pop out floats that presumably could be used where no runway was available or in an emergency. One has two engines and the other has 4. Both of them float and leave good wakes unlike many sea-plane offerings. One the ground the aircraft tail strikes readily and this generates a load of sparks if one isn't careful. In the air she's docile enough and feels like a similar sized airliner etc. Of the two real ones built , only the partial remains of one exist in a museum. It's a design that never achieved its true potential sadly. Captain Coffee 2,030
I suspect that the line between "very ugly", and "very cool" is a Wierd Wiggly one. This craft seems to be flying straight down the middle of it...
brett 2,316
I believe there as many Russian oddities as there are vodka drinkers. Thanks for the look Alan.

Lucy.P 168
You really do have to applaud the bold Russian spirit of originality
