dodgy-alan 1,587
An old FROG 1/72 scale kit, but given a new identity from that intended. This wears a fictitious scheme of the Royal Australian Navy circa late 1970s on HMAS Melbourne. In fact the Vixen was never exported out of the UK. This one has swapped the twin Red-Top missiles for a pair of Sidewinders and a pair of Bullpups. The refueling probe and pitot tubes are all replacement brass items, and sensor pod under the nose came from and old Phantom kit. The colour scheme is based on that carried by some RAN McDonnell-Douglas Skyhawks. The RAN operated this aircraft's predecessor , the DH Sea Venom, but never the Vixen. The project took longer than I'd have liked due to a problem with decals. The original set I ordered for the model were faulty and had to be returned. Hence having to wait for new ones.. (the original kit ones were years old and completely shot.) Anyway, I'm pleased with the way she's turned out. Thanks for viewing.
J G 927
Very nice Alan. The Sea Vixen is one of my favourite aircraft.
brett 2,310
Nice one Alan, though I always felt that jets with twin booms looked odd.
