Captain Coffee 2,030
My first official Airhauler trip in the new C46. I love it when I get an ORBx to ORBx job...this time from KAVX-Catalina Island to Ganser (201) included in their Blue Canyon KBLU set. Getting warmed up at an overcast KAVX. It was quite socked in and my cargo was Too Much and TOO far back...learned on this trip that the 2 stock cargo locations will need customizing by adding additional spots...putting the whole load in the Rear Cargo position is like putting anvils in the tail...needless to say, it was a roller coaster ride in dense fog to get out of there to where I could stabilize the beast enough for my copilot to go back and adjust the load. Flying by ADI alone was way to bumpy to take our seat belts off, but once I got eyes on the horizon I was able to deal with it better and we got the weight shifted forward. Out of it, and Rusty is shifting cargo. Over the San Diego area and heading north. A bit more gray to fly through once I hit the central valley, but it is just vapor, no ice or turbulence in that stuff. I'm over the Stanislaus Forest area. That is Lake Tahoe in the background. I'm on approach into Quincy/Ganser Field...here we see that my sim is not always Crisp and Sharp...in fact I see the blurries like this quite often on approaches when my machine's VAS is on the nearly empty side. But the textures catch up on landing and crisp up during the taxi to parking. Lovely job on this field, thanks ORBx. And thanks for flying along. 8,000 lbs of DVD's and 2000 lbs of frozen fish appreciate your help unloading. Cheers. Coff. EDIT: The cargo stations in the stock aircraft.cfg are FARKED up....a silly mistake. They put the Distance forward and back from the CG in the slots for Left and Right of CG positions...doh...Noticed it tonight while doing touch and goes, adding stations, and discoverd that removing or adding weight was causing the CG to shift left and right...doh. Swap these positions in red if you get this plane. station_load.0= 170, -2.000, 18.500, 1.800 station_load.1= 170, 2.000, 18.500, 1.800 station_load.2= 1500, 0.00, 16.000, 0.000 station_load.3= 4000, 0.00,12.000, 0.000 Here is a fixed and customized station load with the positions fixed, and two additional cargo stations added to help spread the load fore and aft. brett 2,316
Thanks Matt, not only a nicely laid out PIREP, you make it look so simple, but also some great work on the .CFG fix. I wonder if the people of S.D. looked up and wondered why the blimp overhead had wings.

rosariomanzo 545
This aircraft is such a looker. Great shots and useful suggestion about the cargo load.
dodgy-alan 1,587
Excellent shots, I used to see SW DC-8s and CL-44s at Heathrow back in the 70s. The black and gold livery always looked very striking.
Captain Coffee 2,030
Thanks for the comments folks. I like this bird a lot, it has some character. An hour of touch and goes around KCCR, Concord and Mt. Diablo yesterday helped get used to it. Very glad I understand a little of the .cfg arcanery...that Weight and Balance stuff is kind of Critical in Airhauler, especially with the Pax Reputation feature in version2. As it was the stock Commando Pax hauler would have terrified passengers to Zero satisfaction shortly after take off if fully loaded.
