Captain Coffee 2,030
They already published this and put it out there...a clever "maker" can put a shaped explosive on any mini store bought drone and land it on a policeman's swat helmet...no Ai necessary...pigeoning idiots.

Captain Coffee 2,030
Might be some lag wain. It's a video about a company promoting their latests weaponry...a micro drone with a built in AI designed to autonomously hunt out "profiles" or "specific targets", land on their face and blow a hole throught their heads. They 'hope' to sell a delivery system that will drop thousands of these over an "enemy" city to hunt down bad people...as designated by whomever programs the buggers. Insane weapons for an insane planet...almost to the point of hoping an asteroid takes us all out.
wain 879
Right thanks for the explain Matt, maybe these weird films we watched years ago were not quite as far fetched.......
brett 2,316
This was a"What if" film created by college folk although I wouldn't be surprised if the military would be interested. We are either going to wipe each other out some day or hopefully people will come to their senses. Here's the full scoop.... http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/14/technology/autonomous-weapons-ban-ai/index.html
Captain Coffee 2,030
1984 was a "what if" novel...seems like it was used as a "how to" manual ...just like this will by terrorists or goverments... although honestly sometimes I think the difference between the two is very subtle.
allardjd 1,853
That's an awful lot of technology to pack into a package that small. Face recognition, including the scanning hardware, plus autonomous drone pilotage in a package that small would not be easy to pull off. Might be possible I guess but it's going to take some shoe-horning to get all that in there along with enough battery to give it any serious range/endurance. Maybe someday soon the Secret Service agents surrounding the President will all be carrying face-sized posters with his image as decoys. John EDIT: Here's a technical thought - the "weapon" is a 3 gram shaped charge. A US nickel (a 5-cent coin) weighs about 5 grams so that's a pretty tiny charge. Any shaped charge has to be right up against the intended target to be effective. Seems as if dodging one of these that happens to be buzzing around a person wouldn't be that difficult. Those quadracopter drones are not really all that fast or maneuverable and I would think preventing one from delivering a killing blow to the head would not be all that hard for either the intended victim or a near bystander. Would you stand still and let one land on you? I think they're going to have to try again.

The gap between the helmet and the skull would defeat the shaped charge unless it was considerably larger than 3 grams. John

John If it landed on one of our politicians it wouldn't cause that much damage, there's nothing in their heads to start with! 1
