Evening departure

Recommended Posts

Avro Tudor IV departing Bournemouth for her run across the Atlantic.  The Tudor was an attempt by Avro to break into the 4 engined airliner market  dominated by the Americans post WW2. It utilIsed may of the systems from the Lincoln including the wings and engines and tailwheel undercarriage. However due to the emphasis being put on luxury it did not have the seating capacity of the American aircraft. It found very few operators and some highly publicised accidents sealed it's doom. One Tudor was later modified to become the Jet powered Ashton research aircraft but that was never intended to be a commercial aircraft.
