you beat me to it Mut, just read this news over at the ACES Studio blog. Apparently only 6 of the original team remain for 'contractual' reasons, the others have been given 40 days to find 'other work within Microsoft'....

So, here we are now, left with ACES down the pan, FSX SP2 clearing a small part of the plethora of issues, near complete DX10 integration, still a few bugs to fix with FSX itself, and a massive fan base of enthusiasts, like ourselves, left in limbo running around like headless chickens shouting "the end is nigh"....... i need a beer to steady the nerves.

I think that FS is fairly realistic how it is at the mo. IMHO I think fs9 is better looking than FSX, purely on FSX looking at bit more cartooney sort of :great: (not even I know what im trying to say :yess: )

We do have X-plane, but to be honest its not as much as popular as Microsofts series.

It may be an and of ACES but not really the end of FS.

John, as ever you raise some essential points about what is missing in FS.

As you quite rightly say, the addon market is massive, I cannot understand why Microsoft have never tapped this source of income, with the release of the Acceleration pack I thought they may have changed their strategy but obviously not.

I think there are plenty of years in the old dog yet with or without Microsoft.

Cheers

just to re-iterate what i said on justflight:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

i hoping too that when the fninacal market swings back into the positive Aces will be re-launched and Microsoft will issue an apology for the record books.

Well, maybe, but the next time MS apologizes for anything will be the first time.

I wouldn't worry too much - with or without MS, I believe flight simulation will be around for a long, long time and will continue to get better.

From what I've heard/seen, MS will keep hold of the FS franchise and its assets. FS11 development has been suspended but I believe that in a few years time (when the economy is on the up again), they will restart development.

No bad thing IMHO, developers need a few years to get the most out of the current FS engine. If FS11 had been released in a couple of years from now, 99% of developers would have really struggled to make yet another transition. It would have been made ever worse by the introduction of Windows 7 at around the same time. We had a similar issue when FSX was released, not only was there a new version of FS to deal with, Vista was also being released and causing problems!
