Matt 0
Snow, what snow? All we had this morning was grey skies with a bit of sleet/rain. (Hertfordshire) Matt.
wisemanp 0
School cancelled again today as is the geography trip... I've never seen people going so slow on the roads before! Gloucestershire is truly bad as hardly any of the roads have been gritted. Time for some more snowball fights!
mutley 4,498
No snow here at all! but we had to abandon our journey to work this morning, got within 12 miles of the office but the A34 was closed, we spent 90 minutes getting a quarter of a mile. Then spent 10 minutes in MuckDonalds having a coffee whilst watching the traffic get worse then we headed back South so I am working from home. :great: Cheers
CyprusAirwaysA330 0
Had loads of snow here in London. On Monday everyone from my school who lives nearby went and had a snowball fight at the park against another local snow. That was truly good fun. We also got Tuesday off. At the moment, its snowing, but nothing is sticking to the ground, it's just melting. :great:
mutley 4,498
The M4 Severn bridge linking England and Wales remains closed after sheets of ice crashed through car windscreens in a fifth day of heavy snow falls.
hurricanemk1c 195
Snowing in Portlaoise now! METAR for Dublin (in simple English), just to give you an idea of the avitaion weather : This is a METAR report for EIDW - DUBLIN . The report was made 33 minutes ago, at 08:30 UTC. The wind was blowing at a speed of 4 knots (4.6 miles per hour, 2.1 metres per second) from the West/Southwest (
allardjd 1,853
That's not really severe weather, but with the temp right at freezing and a 1 degree temp/dewpoint spread and visible moisture (light snow) the Cessnas will not be flying today. That's a recipe for airframe icing if I've ever seen one. Of course a few hundred feet up everything is probably fine, but you have to be able to get there to enjoy it. JPS 0
I was going to post these pictures in the Real world aviation section but as they are snow related I thought I would post them in this topic. Went to Denham for a lesson on saturday the snow had melted near my home but when we got to Denham it was all frozen snow so ended up doing navigation planning which was actually quite fun. The runway at denham was described as sheet ice (I have a picture on my phone which I will have to upload in the next few days), it made a great ice rink as me and the other instructors found out as we ventured onto the runway, which by the way was a different experience and showed the vastness of the runway and grass areas because in the plane it makes it all look so small. Here we go: Juliet Seria trying to get some cover but to no success, she was frozen. PA-28 and Cessna 182 sitting in the cold. A cirrus parked up but i doubt that cover provided much protection against the bitter cold and ice: Goes to show what a bit of snow can do, wouldn't you agree that JF's Denham scenery has got the winter textures just right? Anyway I will try and get the picture of the runway up soon as :great:
mutley 4,498
Thanks for the shots Adam, it's always nice to see Denham in the RW. As for the JF scenery, got to agree there about the hard winter textures!
