ddavid 149
Picked this up from Jim Kenny over at Vorona Aviation - it's a new app for FS9 and FSX which displays Airport Charts as a pop-up guage (like GPS) when you're in 2-D Panel mode. Developed by Holger Maass, you can find it here: http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=apchart.zip&CatID=root&Go=Search Downloading is fairly straightforward, apart from some German dialogue (Ach, Du Liebe! Ed), and there's a pdf User Guide. Actually getting the Airport Chart Gauge to 'pop' up in FSX was a bit harder, however, after a couple of visits to the AVSIM Forum, I sorted it out for the default Cessna Caravan - as you can see: What's amazing about Airport Chart Gauge, apart from creating a datbase of ALL (I kid you not) the airfields in FS9/FSX, but it shows your AC's position when you're on the ground in respect of runways, taxiways, ramps etc. It's a great find for me, especially now with Air Hauler, as I usually get totally lost after landing and can never find the right gate. :great: Hope you find it useful, too. Cheers - Dai.

allardjd 1,853
Looks good, and it's freeware. This one is worth downloading and having a look. I may have to get out of the home-made airport chart business. But, still, mine have radio frequncies, runway and navaid info. Seriously, this looks like a worthwhile utility to have and the programming appears to be very cleverly done. John
ddavid 149
Looks like this app has runway, taxiway and parking information. There's also a list of radio frequencies but I'm not sure whether these cover navaids - it's a blind spot for me at present! The pop-up 'gauge' is probably designed for "ground use" - but it looks really handy for when you're planning which way to get into an airfield you only know the ICAO for...... Cheers - Dai. allardjd 1,853
I've downloaded and installed this in FS9 and am having some problems with it. It will pan horizontally but not vertically. I get the "hand" icon when I mouse over the vertical scroll button (top right), but don't get the "+" or "-" as I do on the horizontal scroll button at bottom right. I can't get the map to scroll vertically at all. The zoom button works. Also, there's a point in the install where it asks if you want it in all your AC - kind of scary. What they don't say is that if you say yes to that, the next screen is a list of AC and you can check the ones you want it installed in - you can select as many as you want to. It does not put a new SimIcon on your panel, just puts a new item on the Views -> Instrument Panel pad of the Top Line Menu. It looks useful. If the vertical scroll worked, I'd continue to use it. Without that, it's kind of lame. Maybe I'm missing something. John EDIT: OK, I was missing something. The hot zones for the vertical scroll are right and left of the button, not above and below as would seem to be the intuitive place for them. Looking better. It didn't pick up all my add on airports and is instead showing me the unmodified "stock" versions. Will play with it and check back in later with an update. JDA
allardjd 1,853
Next Chapter... There's a "-D->" key for direct to, i.e. changing airports. The entry box won't work, just pops up and stays static - I can't get the cursor to come alive and allow entry of a new ICAO code. When I used Go To Airport from the Top Line Menu and changed locations, the AP Charts gauge did not update - still shows me at the first airfield. Closing and re-opening the pop-up didn't help. This thing appears to have great potential, but is either not very intuitive or just not fully functional. I'm interested enough that I'd like to use it. If anyone else has downloaded it and is having success with it I'd like to hear from you. John
mutley 4,498
You should have been on the beta team John What are you going to do when AH goes live, other than take a well deserved rest ? Cheers
allardjd 1,853
I'm going to live forever - I'm so far behind it will take forever for me to catch up. I'm never bored and never have time enough to do all the things I want to do or try all the things I want to try. The days are too short and I enjoy every one of them. This retirement business is even better than they said. I should have done it sooner. John

rob16584 42
This looks very similar to the FSMap application from Aerosoft, but free, so it makes it a bit better!
Longbeard 0
This looks pretty useful to me. Should one expect a performance hit with addons such as this? As in FPS, etc? I ask, because I, and James as well, don't exactly have top end equipment.
allardjd 1,853
I haven't used except for some static testing, but since it's only used for finding your way around airports, I reckon things aren't moving too fast, so should be OK. I don't believe it's intended to be a in-flight thing, though I suppose you could use it to look up radio frequencies and runways and such. There are better ways to get those things anyway.
