New nVidia drivers

Recommended Posts

I already have Mut, don't know if it offered any performance benefits, the new one. Guess we'll just have to wait for the boys at Nvidia to remember how to supply us with a control panel, don't like the old fashioned one.

By the way, abaris on JF discovered that you can get rid ogf the jittering action replay in FSX by hitting the 'A' key. I'll give it a bash (literaly) tomorrow.

Cheers Mart,

I will give it a bash too if I can stop my PC crashing in the middle of a flight. (FSX & FS9) I need an expert on site!

I think there's some problem with memory addresses as it either just freezes with a stuttering repetitious sound or reboots. I'm getting really pissed off with it now banghead.gifthsmiles48.gifthsmiles47.gifblowup.gif

[/RANT](You get the idea)

If anyone knows of any decent debug programs? I have tried Memtest, I have a feeling that if I reinstall everything it will still be the same. I may have a go next weekend as I am grounded for this weekend grumpy.gif

Cheers

Remember that problem I had Mut when I built my simming rig?

I tracked down the culprit by taking out a stick of ram. It ran okay but when I swapped it for the other one it played up. If you have two or more sticks you could try that.

Thanks for the replies, I tried Memtest and it came up with no errors.

I didn't have a chance to test it yesterday due to a bereavement and probably wont be able to until next week.

Martin, I think I will do the memory check that you suggest, I'm going to take the side off and give it a good clean out and re-seat the boards.

Thanks for your help.

I'll install it today, perhaps in conjunction with the DirectX update.

I'm going to try a couple pf CFG tweaks as well.

From Mr Taylor himself.

FSX:Tweak of the Week ( or 2 )

Now that I have burst peoples bubble on PerfBuckets and Procspeed on my blog ( http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor ), let’s talk some real tweaks, TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT and BUFFERPOOLS.

These are tweaks in the fsx.cfg file. If you don’t know what that is, you probably don’t want to be using these.

TEXTURE_BANDWITH_MULT

The mysterious sounding TEXTURE_BANDWITH_MULT is our first target. This is a setting in the [GRAPHICS] section of the file, formatted like this:

[GRAPHICS]

TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=n

Where n can range from 10 to some reasonable value that is related to your frame rate limit.

From Rafael Cintron, part of the FS Graphics and Terrain team, comes this description:

The TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT option in the Graphics section is the target frame rate use for calculating texture bandwidth. The higher you set this value the more textures we will allocate and copy per frame to the graphics card. The lower you set this value, the less we will allocate and copy up to a minimum limit. As an example, the default rate in the “high

Hi Martin,

I've just downloaded the driver again and it's nice to see the control panel back.

I'm going to have a look at the directX update too.

By the way I think a lot of my problems could be down to my PSU. It came with the case when I purchased it and only now checking the wattage it's 430W :mrhappy: That cannot be enough?

So a new one is winging it's way to Chez Mutley and I hope to fit it next weekend.

It's a ThermalTake Toughpower 750Watt PSU, I like the sound of that, give me some tough power!

As you are a techie type I've done a cut & paste just for you!

# Complies with ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V version

# SLI, Cross-Fire, and Dual Core CPU ready

# Next generation four +12V rails(12V1, 12V2, 12V3, 12V4) supports high-end graphic card and PC system (combined loading of 60A)

# Independent Voltage Circuit: offers unflappable current delivery under heavy load and makes voltage output more stable

# Active Power Factor Correction (PF>0.99) and high efficiency (up to 85%)

# Extremely good voltage regulation (3%): provides steady voltage for system

# Industrial grade components (capacitor, transformer, etc)

# High reliability: MTBF>120,000 hours

# Mirror effect housing and reliable 14cm ball-bearing fan

:bored:

Now your going to tell me I should have gone for a 1500W

Cheers

Wow! :mrhappy:

Sounds a beauty Mut!

140mm fan is a whopper should be nice and quiet as bigger fans spin more slowly for the equivalent airflow.

Mirror housing as well… so you can admire your rotten canine teeth! :chuckle:

I have an Enermax 620 watt job; I’m very pleased with it. I think your old 430 watt in theory could have just scraped through, as long as there aren't too many other peripherals draining its juice. Having said that, the PSU's that ship with cases are super cheap rubbish usually, so it probably wasn't provided all the quadrathermozapalistic energy it's dilithium crystals promised. :???:

My PSU (in the PSU I’m abusing at the moment, my old PC I use for the net) has a 480-watt job but it is an Antec Neo Power, which is a superb PSU you get what's on the tin. :bored: It doesn't have to handle the latest Mut’tastic hardware though.

I would plug in the extra 12v connector as well, it's not essential but is recommended, it fits along side the existing one.

I did some testing yesterday with different scenarios and I think I'm getting the best FSX can provide really, the stutters I moan about are quivers really and from what I've seen on Avsim from other stutter sufferers mine should be regarded as acceptable, most of the bad stu... stu... stutter inflicted simmers would be over the moon with my slight quiver, you know me, I'm a perfectionist.

I do get some big stutters at airports though, so I think I need to whack down the airport settings, like those pathetic vehicles and perhaps reduce the traffic a bit.

Your PSU looks great though Mut, I look forward to a review of its quantum zero point zilithium quadronecitance.

I've not been too impressed with my noisy BFG card as you know Mut, I'm not using coolbits anymore, so I think when I can afford it I'll get the Thermalright HR03 cooler, passively it's equal to the stock cooler but with a 90mm fan it's even cooler but still whisper quiet.

For now though, I need to order some Zalamn paste, which is as good as Arctic Silver they say, all though easier to apply, and get my Arctic Freezer off and refit. It's gone very warm. :sadblinky:

Thanks Martin,

I'm pleased with my purchase now

I have the Coolbits 2 re-installed but haven't done any clocking yet.

Good luck with your applying your Zalamn paste I guess I will have to start using that when I get to your age :rofl

Btw, My birthday is next Saturday, I just want to give you enough time to post my present :mrhappy:

Cheers

Yes that’s true Mut... because when you get to my age, which incidentally is still very young and only a couple of years beyond you, the time will have come when your brain power is slightly more than a billionth of a percent of mine. Then of course you will realise the importance of applying the said compound to ones PC.

Btw, My birthday is next Saturday, I just want to give you enough time to post my present

Which will of course be some of these:

I know you like to wear them at the weekend... in your shed.

Of course you can Mutley. Would you like the rest of the gear as well?

Lisa told me you like to wear the complete outfit when you go to the supermarket for your shopping.

Just make sure you don't go anywhere near my local Tescos.
