SlimNasty 0
Hi Guys, Just thought I would say hello and wasn't sure where to post it as not very good with forums, so hopefully this is okay. Found you site by chance when browsing the net off one of the sites that I download my planes for. I have FSX + Acceleration, have installed VFR London and World of AI, along with about 770 aircraft (takes ages to startup) and a few other things. I am looking to get Air Hauler soon as this looks great, been trying the demo, so if you have any information on this, please feel free to post some links back to me :-) Might get Traffic X later too in order to replace World of AI, again anyone have any views on this for me would be great. Been out of work since March so strapped for cash, but just got another job, so hopefully catch up with things soon. Do you guys ever meet up at all? I look forward to hearing from you and hope to have a good browse of the forum :-) Speak Soon Phil ... aka SlimNasty
allardjd 1,853
Welcome aboard, Phil. If you're in Southampton you're in the thiick of things. It's kind of a MH home base. You won't regret AirHauler - it gives you a whole new reason for owning FS. Say goodbye to your family and friends and abandon all your other hobbies. We have a term - AirHaulic. We can quit any time we want to... John
mutley 4,498
Hi Phil, First off to Mutley's As John mentioned, living in Southampton you are in our home stomping ground with Southampton/Eastleigh airport EGHI being our adopted home aka "Mutley Field" Congratulations on getting a new job, hopefully things are on the upturn now. Air Hauler is an absolute must have application. If you ever feel that flight simulation is getting "samey" then this will get you out of the doldrums! As for AI, personally I have tried all the payware. Ultimate Traffic 2 is my favourite, it has no affect on frame rate as it does not run a traffic.bgl file so it runs at 100% I also run MyTraffic 5.2a. I'm sort of trialling it at the moment and it's probably the best I have come across that uses the standard .bgl method. I am not keen on TrafficX myself, I have beta tested the product and shot promotional videos for Just Flight so I have used it quite a bit. Don't forget, you can always enter our screen shot competition for a chance to win AirHauler full product! We don't have club meetings, we are a virtual club and we come from quite a diverse community and have members from Oz tot the States, South Africa to Sweden so you see it would be difficult to arrange! I Hope you enjoy your time here and don't be afraid to ask questions and join in. Cheers Mut
SlimNasty 0
Thanks Guys, I am looking forward to being a member and my new job... It looks like I will get Air Hauler, been loving the demo, just need to wait for my first pay packet on the 15th of next month then will order a copy, will try a post a screen shot at some point to see what you guys think of my flying. I've had FSX Acceleration for some time now, but only really picked it up properly recently due to a lot of spare time with no job, a friend taught me how to do ILS approaches, although most of the time the computer seems to still put me miles off course and I have to switch to manual landings. I love my 737 & 747's and long flights, although playing the Learjet in Air Hauler is a nice change as adds more atmosphere. I have had a quick look at Ultimate Traffic 2 as per your suggestion and it does look better than Traffic X, but can you buy it on DVD, I could only see a download and prefer original discs myself? Anyway, I will probably post a few questions at some point, but will try and browse for the answers first so not to repeat anything for you guys Chat soon Phil aka SlimNasty

I decided not to wait for my first pay packet, so have ordered Air Hauler today, so should get it next week, will need to learn how to make my own liveries now so I can make Slim Airline Haulage Speak Soon Phil
mutley 4,498
Hi Phil, We should be able to help you with creating a new livery. Several of us here have managed to bodge together a livery for Air Hauler. Here is mine. Great British Haulage aka GBH! Cheers Hi Mutley, Hey I like that, especially the flag on the tail I will probably try and find a paint kit for the Cesna, Learjet, 737 & 747 so I can make my fleet, did you use Photoshop or something else? I will have a browse of your forums for some more info and check out see if I can download a few kits, got the CRJ700 and had old 98 guages, so scraped it... working on a 737, but there is no docs with it, so don't know how to get it into the right format for the game... I will get there though :-) Speak Soon Phil
mutley 4,498
Hi Slim, Yes I use Photoshop but any program that can use layers will do the job. Martin Wright's DXTBmp program is an absolute must for converting the finished textures for FS use. As you are keen to browse the forums most answers are already there but feel free to post if you are unsure. Cheers
SlimNasty 0
Hi Mutley, That's good to see, I have already downloaded DXTBmp for converting and started by copying a 747-400 default white texture, renaming it, saving one of the files back to a BMP file which Photoshop could read, putting some text on it and putting it back into a format the game could read... although it looked naff it sort of worked... Will have another try today. In Air Hauler what is the default plane for Career mode as I would love to get one painted up ready for when it arrives. Already thought of a name: SlimAir Logistics Now just need to paint a plane... Speak Soon
mutley 4,498
Hi Slim Depends which mode you use to start. Easy = Learjet Med = Cessna Caravan Hard/ Career = Cessna 172 So there's three to start with! Cheers
allardjd 1,853
Career mode (not quite the same as Hard mode, but close) is also the C-172. John
Edward Longe 3
Might get Traffic X later too in order to replace World of AI, again anyone have any views on this for me would be great Stick with WOAI, better models and not as buggy

DaveCheetham 0
I have had a quick look at Ultimate Traffic 2 as per your suggestion and it does look better than Traffic X, but can you buy it on DVD, I could only see a download and prefer original discs myself? Just waiting for Tom to finish a Service pack that will add a whole host of new features and improvements before we get the boxed version out. All the artwork is made and we just need to update the manual with the revised interface (once I get to see it). Should be ready to roll in the next few weeks... (I will regret saying that knowing how these things go). Dave. Flight1 Europe.
mutley 4,498
That's great news Dave, it's surprising how many people hold out for the DVD version of software. I'm looking forward to the UT2 update and thanks for stopping by the Hangar to let us know btw it was nice to meet you at the show and thanks for the introduction to Steve, I never did get around to seeing the Mustang P51D demo. Cheers /Joe
SlimNasty 0
That is Great News Dave, I am one of the funny people that likes to buy the original DVD and I am a bit of a hoarder, I still have X-box, PS One & 2, and DreamCast games which I never play, plus stacks of PC games... I also think there is less chance of piracy if it is on disc, I have always appreciated what you developers have put into a game/software from the days of the Amiga. Anyway I am looking forward to UT2 to replace World of AI which I think has it's bugs....
Capt Mcg 0
High Gang! Sorry it took so long to post something on Mutleys' wonderful web site here. I have a question for you expert re-painters. When trying to make a layer for repaints, I'll pull down a picture of a flag and will save it. Problem being is th at now the saved layer always has a white background. Is there a trick to making the portion of the background transparent? Do you have to use one of the tools (lasso, pencil, dot scheme) to mark the border of the actual item you want? Otherwise I end up having to import the layer, and magnifying it and going with a paint brush to eliminate any white that appears. So far I've checked 5 tutorials and none go into specifics on how to capture the items to make them have transparent backgrounds. I've gotten pretty good with repaints, but this is one area that just stumps me. You know how it is when you spend too much time flying Police Helicopters at very, very, very low altitudes. I think some of the Brain cells died while flying through the garlic fields of Gilroy, California. Aloha for now. Capt. Mc "G"
mutley 4,498
Hi Capt Which paint program do you use? Does the flag look transparent in the original imported picture? If it does I guess it must be either a .gif or .png file. If the background is white on the imported layer can you not use a selection tool that only picks up the white and delete it? /mut
allardjd 1,853
Capt, If using Paint.Net, select the white outer part with the "Magic Wand" tool. You may have to set the Tolerance slider to a low value so you get just what you want - I use 5% for most things. Once selected, hit the Delete key and it goes away to be replaced by that checkerboard effect. That indicates transparency. If you save it at that point it will not have any background around it. All that is pretty much what Mutley said... John
Capt Mcg 0
Thanks fellow Pilots, I'm using Paint.Net. I knew it had to be simple, just wasn't clicking. To answer one question: The original picture has a white border, but I want to get rid of it. I'll try Johns suggestion and look for the checker board in the square. As you know I have been repainting everything and now I want to start over with a different livery to fly in AH. I figured since Aloha Airlines went belly up, I could use Aloha Air Cargo and have ATC use the call sign "Aloha" which seems to be working out okay so far. Other than that, I am spending my time flying and raising Puppies. I must have been out of my mind to start that again....... ** Just a note to all: It sure is nice to read through these posts here on the forum(s) and not run across any "garbage" from the u-know-whos!!!** *** Now I got to see if I remember how to post an Avatar*** Capt.
