dgor 0
Hi all, Spent the day at EGAD yesterday for the bi-annual Ulster Air Show. Really really fantastic. Pity the camera wasn't though - and neither was the weather. Oh well, I've uploaded some of the closer-up shots. It's worth mentioning that we did have a Eurofighter Typhoon come over and do some fantastic flybys, but to be honest I couldn't get a picture of it because the damn thing was going so fast  Oh well. Spitfire trainer (2-seat setup). It did a brilliant display, and the noise from the Merlin engine was probably the nicest I heard all day. The Huey's sound wasn't far off though, with its distinctive thud-thud noise. We couldn't get the Red Arrows but we did get the Aerostars. This team of Brits do aerobatic displays in their Yak 50s all over Europe. They were very good, seen here departing on a practice run. One of the Harriers arriving. These were a surprise as the programme said that because of the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, no Harriers were available. Me-109, I think. The barely-visible-in-this-shot artwork on the rear fuselage reads "God Help England". Lynx helicopter. I really enjoyed this display, the crew were really friendly too. Me in the cockpit. I tried to get a picture of inside the cockpit but it was too dark and cramped in there. Just take my word for it, it was nice. The two Harriers on display. This was as close as we could get to them unfortunately, they're obviously worried about FOD to the engines. The PBY Catalinia. A pretty common sight in NI post-WW2. It was a really fantastic aircraft, and the shortness of its takeoff roll was amazing. The Aerostars doing their stuff. They were amazing pilots. The Harriers deploying back to RAF Cottesmore. Shortly followed by the RAF's Tucanos. Well, that's your lot. Sorry once again about the terrible quality, but it should give some idea of what was there. It was a great day out. Dave :-)
mulletman 0
very nice stuff, thanks for sharing! I beleve thet the aircraft you think is a 109 is inface the civillian version, the 108. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bf_108
dgor 0
I think you're right Fred  Got a bit confused there because there was both an Me108 and an Me109 at the airshow. The Me109 is the one with the tricycle gear I believe.
mutley 4,498
Cracking set of shots Dave, they look so much better the second time around
allardjd 1,853
:good They're looking very good, Dave. I see a munchkin trying to sneak into the Lynx photo. Your brother? You're right; on the list of Huey attributes, the ability to sneak up on someone didn't make the cut. It's a noisy beast. By the way, I think EGAD is a great ICAO code. John
