rob16584 42
Just seen this over at Aersoft, written by the Mathijs. Should prove useful for everyone http://www.forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_id=9064
needles 1,013
What an excellent article Rob. Thanks for the link.
mutley 4,495
Thanks for the link Rob, there are some very good points made in there and Mathijs should know the facts from the myths.
rob16584 42
I applied a couple of the tips during a flight I am doing in the CS767 and the FPS in spot view jumped from 10 to 25!
ddavid 149
Thanks for the H.U., Rob - another excellent tutorial from Mathijs at Aerosoft. This man knows his onions doesn't he, and his writing style is brilliant. I was so engrossed that: a. my dinner went cold, and b. I didn't even notice the typos! Need some time to inwardly digest this...... So, a big Thank-You to you, Mathijs!! Cheers - Dai.
Helaro 0
Just read the article myself, and it really helped my FPS, I've never seen it go above 40 in FSX, but now I'ts way better. I can even handfly an approach with the PMDG MD-11. I can definately recommend this
allardjd 1,853
With that man driving the boat upon which the next great flight simulator might be written, I have to be excited. Now if only he would hire Oleg Maddox. John
MartinW 0
He's running an i7, I would damn well expect the fame rate he sees. I see 40 plus with an E6700. Always leave frame rate slider to unlimited. It's well known that this is system specific, so he shouldn't say that, some systems you can, mine you can't. It also depends upon the scenario, whether you are flying over densely populated Autogen, over an airport, or out in the wilderness. Ho also has his AA on in the sim, rather than the graphics card CP, so therefore the sim is setting a lower AA setting than most of us would prefer. I don't know about you but the AA provided by the sim is totally unacceptable for me. nHnacer and 8XS Combined is for me. Rate Weather Changes over time Not sure he should state that we should all leave at max. If you are running REX it should be set to off. All of his other setting I use anyway, with a lowly E6700, and get 40 plus in the cruise and rarely less on the ground, so I'm unimpressed with the tips to be honest. I'm also surprised his frame rate isn't higher. It's nothing special for an i7.
MartinW 0
Sheds more light on the deeply flawed and technically inaccurate PFD.
mutley 4,495
Amazing how it sort of descends into insults  Obviously if you are running with lower settings then the FPS will shoot up. It depends what you want out of the sim, pretty pictures or a good quality believable sim which I think FSX is. It's only meant as food for thought. Cheers
MartinW 0
Well, I recognize one individual on their that's infamous for that sort of behavior. Don't know if it was 'food for thought', I think it was in response to his frequent comments that he gets 50 frames per second. In response to that he stated his philosophy. I think some are irritated by the inaccurate comments regarding certain graphics cards, that weren't even on the market when he said they were, and other inaccuracies. I think reasonable AA and AF settings aren't related to a liking for pretty pictures, more like a standard expectation, a desire for reasonable visuals. An element of distrust also I think. With some thinking, 'a developer that releses demanding add-ons, encouraging low sim settings increasing FPS at the expense of visuals'. And on an i7 to boot, which should be capable of much more. Groundless paranoia probably, but that's their mind-set. He's a developer, but not a technical expert, bound to fire up those that are [or think they are] I suppose.
CaptHill 0
Well hopefully it will help improve some peoples frame rates.....i know that i always will welcome tweaks that improve the FPS figure. Even when i get my new system i will constantly look for ways to keep things smooth.....there is nothing i hate more than low FPS. Does anyone know anymore about this new sim fro aerosoft that is in the pipe line? CaptHill
allardjd 1,853
Does anyone know anymore about this new sim fro aerosoft that is in the pipe line? Based on what they are biting off, there's a lot more pipe ahead of them than there is behind them. Also, I think they're going to have to play their cards pretty close to their chests. If MS is looking over Aerosoft's shoulder, they are quite capable of playing "spoiler" by jumping back in at the worst possible time for Aerosoft. MS may be out for now but I would not interpret that to mean that they will sit idly by and let someone else come on the market and scoop up the lion's share of the next round of simulator buying. They didn't get to be as big as they are by being stupid. John
CaptHill 0
Good news for us flight simmers then
MartinW 0
Well hopefully it will help improve some peoples frame rates Of course it will, it's lowers settings. We all already knew that lowering settings increased frame rate though didn't we? The same advice could be provided anywhere, including on this forum. In my view the PDF was pointless and contained technical inaccuracies. As for the plans for a new Aerosoft sim, I'm not getting excited about that at all. It's at such an early stage of planning it stands a high probability of not happening at all. TapA321 0
I found the PDF useful and I really like the way it's written in an easy-to-understand, user-friendly way. Thanks both to the author and to Rob for posting it. While we're on the subject of AA/AF, I was wondering if somebody could aid me a little with this. I have my filtering set to anistrophic and AA set to on in the ingame FSX settings. I have then gone to my Nvidia control panel and set AA/AF to 16x, however, I'm not sure whether FSX has actually taken these Nvidia control panel changes to mind, because I see no change in performance and I don't notice any graphical difference either. If I untick the AA box in FSX, however, the game goes back to looking terrible (jagged edges etc.) EVEN THOUGH I still have AA/AF set to 16x in the Nvidia control panel?? Can anyone help me with this please? Cheers, George
allardjd 1,853
I'm no expert, but remember reading somewhere that you should not set anti-aliasing on in both FS and your graphics card setup. If you do they cancel one another out. I recall that the recommendation is to use one or the other, preferably the card. If that's incorrect I'm sure someone will jump in and straighten me out. I have then gone to my Nvidia control panel and set AA/AF to 16x, however, I'm not sure whether FSX has actually taken these Nvidia control panel changes to mind, As I said on page one. If you click the AA box in the sim settings, FSX will give you it's choice of AA, which is very low. You will therefore get jaggies. AA should be OFF, in the sim and then selected in the nVidia control panel. However... many still find that the nVidia control panel is defective in this respect and still won't force AA with the control panel. In which case, nHancer is the best bet. I use nHancer, as the nVidia control panel is broken in this respect for me. nHancer and 8XS Combined works great. Try the control panel and if that fails try nHancer. If you try nHancer I can point you in the direction of the settings info. Essentially the nVidia control panel doesn't give you full control. nHancer does. Including modes you may not have in the nVidia CP.
